I've found this smartphone mount to work perfectly. I noticed this was what Lyft was giving its drivers. I like that it doesn't use any adhesives.

Allegra D Non-Drowsy antihistamine + decongestant. No I don't have allergies but I used to drive long distances taking my son and his team mates to basketball tournaments, drives of 4-16 hours and I found that coffee and energy drinks are just not the way to go to stay awake at the wheel on these drives - there is the pit stops to pee, the irritability and the literal buzzing of the brain that energy drinks cause and then there is the lack of precision in dosage - like getting in a 3:00am and being to wired to sleep for 4 hours and then being useless at work. With one of these Allegra Ds, they keep you awake and alert but not wired and they come in 8 and 12 hour dosages so by doing the math you can take them so that you will be able to sleep shortly after arriving at your destination. Having clear sinuses is just a bonus
And.....books on CD or iPod so that you can listen to more than just music, maybe learn a new language if its a long enough drive. We used to pick up a load of CDs from the library before summer holidays when the kids were younger. Listening to Tim Curry read the Lemony Snicket The Hostile Hospital still stands out among my holiday memories.

Wiper fluid (top off), tire pump, emergency tire kit, basic tools, a pair of gloves, flashlight, emergency blanket, first aid kit, sunglasses, sun screen, lip balm, (sugar free) chewing gum (helps keep teeth clean between meals), paper towels, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, pillow, pen and paper, USB or other cables (for connecting and charging), audio cable, headphones or earbuds…
That should be a good start. And definitely the aforementioned water.
(Also, if you’re into saving both fuel and your tires, make sure you have the recommended tire pressure in each tire.)

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”
