West Coast Shaving

I used to purchase a lot of stuff from WCS as their prices were competitive and selection good. However, that is no longer the case. They seem to be focused on selling WCS branded products. If you search for products, their own brands will always appear at the top of the featured list.

Like others have said, their pricing can be gimmicky. Their standard pricing is often higher than you will find on other sites. They then offer frequent sales that makes the sale prices appear more attractive than they really are. Thus always check prices at several vendors before purchasing. Just as an example, Zingari Man Mousse Illumine shaving soap is available from WCS for $34.99. You can purchase the same soap for $29.95 from Maggard Razors, The Razor Company and directly from the Zingari Man web site. Let the buyer beware.

As West Coast Shaving has faded in my esteem as a vendor , The Razor Company has become my preferred vendor, along with Maggard Razors. However, when purchasing artisan shaving soaps, I try to purchase directly from the artisan's web site when possible.

I have used WCS shaving a few times and haven't really had any complaints though I'm sure there are things. I have been using Maggard since they had EDGE shipping and I use TRC quite a bit these days. I really like them. They answer my questions if needed, I feel prices are fair, they ship quick, and the free shipping threshold is fair. Though it used to be a bit cheaper, it is still not exorbitant.

Inflation has been through the roof the past couple of years., although it might be abating. As manufacturers are paying more for raw materials, those costs have to be passed along to customers in higher prices. Most of the businesses producing and/or selling shaving goods are small companies that are frequently undercapitilized. Higher interest rates have impacted small business significantly as they have to borrow funds to purchase materials and pay for stocking finished goods. In the niche shaving market, there is often am attitude of "the latest thing is the greatest thing".  Of course, there is still interest in vintage razors, etc. but for things like shaving soaps, the quality of the soaps has improved so significantly over the past two years that I have no interest in purchasing soaps that have been on the shelf for a few years.

Does anyone shop with West Coast Shaving? I just got an email about Labor Day savings. I checked out their soaps and the selections are sparse not to mention overpriced.  Even the clearance section is not priced to move. I know they just started selling the American Liberty razor and the A&E designed soaps and splashes but their overall inventory is pretty bare. Just wondering if anyone knows what might be going on with them.

Years ago, they ignored us and didn't seem to be interested. Now, I think they are feeling the pinch from multi-front competition. Some mentioned above, as well as Amazon.

Which is another reason I try and dial direct, I take personal pride trying to patronise the Small Business Owner first, I want the Artisans to have ALL the money.  I can get my q-tips and butt wipes from Amazon, but my Antica Barbiera Colla Apricot Hull Balm I want from AbC or their US/UK Stockists.

Pimping is NOT easy anymore…

It's been 29 days since I ordered some simple shaving cream. I have no tracking number. Nobody answers their customer service line it's just constantly busy. Not sure if I'll ever get my order. Working with my bank to block payment.

Yeah those don't look like very good reviews.
   Anytime I've used West Coast shaving  ,it's probably been at least 2 or 3 year,  there wasn't any problems and good shipping times.
