Saw this Stahly S-6 today at an antique store today. I have never heard of a DE that vibrates? Has anyone ever heard of these... I didn't pick it up but maybe should have at $45...

I've seen them but haven't heard of anyone using them. I've got one(not Stahly) that plugs into the wall but it won't take standard blades.

I have have a Stahly and, yes, they do vibrate. That one looks to be in excellent condition. However, the vibration was produced with a windup mechanism so one had to keep winding it up during the shave to keep it going. Also, because it used a windup mechanism, those could break after a while. Mine still works but, honestly, it is more of a curiosity than anything else.  I won't give mine up but it is not in my rotation.

I have one of those, although not nearly in as nice shape. Mine is rusted shut, cant get the bottom compartment open.
That thing looks new. I woulda been tempted at $45... especially if it works.

I saw one of the plug-in variety on craigslist. It was tempting at $25.

does the vibration do anything at all or is it more of a marketing gimmick?

It may have been more of a marketing gimmick. As I mentioned, it was a wind up mechanism that started the vibration. However, one could be right in the middle of a shave when it would wind down and stop so with a face full of lather one would have to stop the shave to rewind the mechanism or continue shaving without the vibration. Also, the handle is so thick that it can be cumbersome to use the razor.
