Flipping or reselling goods at higher prices, if demands exists, is a fundamental part of Capitalism. This is what our society's economics are built on.

I also believe Aldo is doing the right thing if he feels his brushes command that price. A consequence of his decision will limit the ability of some people to purchase his brushes. At the same time, these brushes are rare, and now they might become rarer. If there is demand on the second hand market, these brushes will continue to increase in price.

Can anybody please discuss without somehow resorting to insulting people.

I think it has to do with the community aspect of the forums, reddit, facebook groups etc. Everyone becomes friendly within those communities. Would you walk into a store, buy something, use it once just to be able to talk about it, then flip it to a buddy for some number higher than retail? No, you probably wouldn't. Those that are pro flipper don't care about the community aspect, or growing the hobby, they just care about themselves, and making a buck. Those that are against it would love for as many people to try as many things as they can.

IME, IMO, YMMV.

We're going to disagree, and that's not bad at all. I like civil disagreements Smile

Use of words like buddy and community make thing sound very different from what reality is, at least in some part of the hobby's enclaves. You and certain people are members of tight knit group. You care about each and you exchange goods at reasonable prices. I’ll give you an example. At one point I owned 2 Paradigm 17-4 razors. A friend knew this The razors were selling on the 2nd hand market for $400+. I sold it to him for what I got from Bullgoose. Had he not been a friend, I would have probably tried to make as much money I could on the 2nd hand market.

The concept of community is nothing more than groups of people conversing, sharing and exchanging. I’m part of a cycling communities. I have made friends within those groups, we’ve sold parts to each other. A friend of mine bought very rare water bottles from me, I sold them to him at fair second hand market price. Few months later, he decided he didn’t want them anymore, he sold them for more than what he paid me. I was totally ok with that!

There is no reason to assume that everyone is a friend of everyone in the wetshaving community. The community is a loosely defined concept. People come and go, people trade goods at prices they’re willing to sell, when buyer is found who’ll pay the price a transaction takes place.

Back to the morality issue too, why is there an insistence on imposing an opinion on others? Imposition is very alienating concept in our society. The reason I’m saying imposition, because so many people have repeated the same thing over and over without backing it up by any logic. It all seems to me something emotional, that’s not founded in something concrete in our society.

You said at the "YMMV" I really believe we should respect that term. If we respect then we would voice our opinions in civil ways, strongly sometimes. As a community at large we should figure out how to respect our differences.

I'm not sure why the wet shaving world is held up on some pedestal....it's a market, where goods and services are traded/sold just like about everything in existence today...whether flipped, traded or sold, who cares? if someone is willing to pay the price for something someone is selling, who is harmed in that transaction? the seller and buyer both benefit, in some way...

I bought a toggle from an antique shop in San Antonio, Texas like 2-3 years ago for around $60. I sold it on ebay for nearly $200. who was harmed in this transaction? I paid them what they wanted for the product and someone paid me what they felt like was a good price for the item I was selling....

I don't feel the same way about Vintage razors. When I see someone but a brush or razor and list it 2 days later for a higher price, that's just being a jerk and I totally understand why Wolfman and now Varlet raised their prices.

Why do you care if someone disagrees with you? Your response is to ban them? Your ball, your game.

I think even an impartial blind person could see that was much more than a simple disagreement. Unless you have an agenda.

if others thought they were being a jerk too, those items wouldn't ever sell....except they do, almost always.

when they're repeatedly told to keep threads on topic, but they don't, then something has to be done. nameisjoey has been warned several times over the past few months about this. then 3 posts after mine, he tries to derail this thread again.

we're not stupid, we know exactly what they're trying to do here. as I said, they're free to start their own forum where they can troll until their heart's content!

So take Joey for example -

Joey doesn’t flip gear (who knows if he does or not) so he’s all about the community? Read his post for Christ’s sake.

There’s nothing community building about it.

Joey didn't cross my mind once when I posted, I have nfi what he has to do with anything.

I didn’t think he did. I assume since Joey is such a valued member of your community, and since your community is so anti flipping and pro community, that you would consider Joey to be pro community.

Then you see the garbage he repeatedly posts here and elsewhere. How can you say those actions are pro community?

You talk of community, friendship and comradery. How do you think the wetshaving community at large should react if a tight knit group of people on DFS bashed artisans they don't like, insulted and ridiculed anyone who competes with their favorite artisans. What do you think of the reputation of DFS would be at the point.

You talk of elevating the wetshaving communities above the layer of people who flip products. Can we start at a different point. How about not insulting people and demeaning them for choices they make in products. I'm not saying you do, but I hope you and I can influence people to change - not impose though Smile

Point taken, and noted. How many this times issue has been raised on r/wetshaving, a lot! I apologized, I fixed it, I reimbursed people. I learned my lesson. What would you like to see done to me. Really, I would love an answer to this question, I have asked so many times, the replies were always insults.
