It would be a big help if you could post one or more photos.

It is very easy to get the wrong blade for those Valets.

What works for one may not be any good in another.
That 1914 could be the patent number, not the date it was manufactured.

Take my word. This band aid on my forefinger is not for decoration.

Check this excellent article for an identification aid.

Thanks Freddy. I just wish I had more time to devote to the forum. It seems 24 hours just isn't enough time in a day anymore.

Brian, whenever you can manage to post it is appreciated.  Your posts are filled with a lot of information, insights, and help.  I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one who feels this way.  (Even though I know it's not your recipe, it will always be 'Brian's Bread' to me. Winking)

:-) It's coming up on cold weather (for us) and time to bake more of it! I don't light the oven in the summer heat. But there's nothing like homemade bread and I'm starting to miss it. That no-knead bread really couldn't be simpler.

I got my Valet old blades on E-bay. They show up in bulk quite often. And, this morning I shaved with one of the E-bay- new Valet old blades in a One blade razor just to see how it would go and what the blade would feel like. I could tell the valet blade was not as sharp as the Feather blade, but it was plenty sharp enough and the feed back while shaving was outstanding. The shave was bloodless and as close as I am able to obtain with any razor and any blade! I figure the price of each blade to be .60 cents in USA dollars. That works out to be cheaper than the Feather blades new for me. I am sure I could get 2 and maybe more shaves out of each original Valet blade. So, if you can get some new Valet blades on E-bay to put in your Valet razor I say go for it. And an old razor with an original blade would seem to be a very old time experience? A bit of History really and Something to think about? I am watching auctions for a NOS Valet razor with an unused strop just to see how that would work?

The VC1 will also work with a despined gem blade.

the despined gem blade option is the best and cheapest bet. The feather blades are hard to find. and when you do, its 1.00 each. in a 10 pack.

The newer valets that require the slots should have the option to be modded to use gem blades. Using the De Haven process, youd simply cut down the gem blade to fit between blade stops and the 3 tabs inside the head.
