So anyone use them for cleaning razors? What do you use? What do you like about it? Price and where to get? Thanks

Hey Dave! I’ve used them quite a bit for cleaning razors. They can seemingly work magic if used correctly. I’ve been using them for a long time to clean chrome plated brass parts when rebuilding dive helmets and I’ve used pretty much the same methods when cleaning razors. Fill it up to cover what you’re cleaning, add a touch of distilled vinegar, maybe 2-3 caps full with the smaller ultrasonic cleaners and a dash of non-ionic detergent (dawn dish soap works). I do it in 15ish minute intervals and inspect and scrub with a tooth brush. I’ve never had an issue with plating coming off unless it was flaking off to being with. When I’m satisfied I’ll give the razors a rinse while scrubbing with the tooth brush again. If the razors are really bad, I’ll add a bit more vinegar and/or let it run for 30-60 minutes. The picture below is what I’ve been using lately.

I have an ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight and it works pretty well. I think I was using dish soap (probably dawn) in the tank when cleaning razors. the only razors I ever had issues with were old gillette razors where the plating was suspect to begin with.

just go easy with it and do it in shorter intervals...let it run, check it, etc..

I have a small ultrasonic, a Branson I bought in an art supply for cleaning micro pen tips 25-30 years ago. I use it with Dawn dish soap (a little goes a long way) for stainless razors, like Wolfman etc, that I'm going to sell ... or keep. Works magnificently. They shine like a new dime in goat's behind.  Smile

They are good for light cleaning, not for heavy caked on years of soap/hair inside of an adj. How do I know? I once used one on an extremely grody "Fatboy" until the outside shined like a diamond. Even all the painted letters came off. This was after countless cycles. I decided to totally disassemble it and YUCK!! Looked like the sewers of Rome!!  Cry  It needed actual mechanical action to remove the crap.

I know goats have evil eyes, right Fluffy? But I didn't know about cleaning coins. Which end do you insert the coin into?!

Thanks for those that have replied with specifically what cleaner they are using with success. I'm curious about the ones that are in the 30 to $50 range and if anybody is using those with success. If so and you could share what brand and model it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Harbor Freight's is up to stinking $90 now....

I've been using this one since 2017 and hasn't failed me yet. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Q2...UTF8&psc=1

It only costs $39.99 and though its not very big, it has handled everything I've put in it. I use it once a month to clean up my Ti95DC and once in a while there might be something else that needs a spitshine!! Just takes a couple drops of Dawn and does its job well...
