With what is going on around the world at the moment and me not going into work for the foreseeable future(school custodian), I have the time on my hands to learn how to use a kamisori Tongue    I picked up a Kai Captain Standard with some Kai and Feather blades for it and have been using that more and more in the last 2 weeks since I have had it.  I started just doing my cheeks to get the grip down then switched to my DE to finish up.  Then it was cheeks and throat and a DE finish up, now I'm doing pretty much my whole face with the Kai and just using a DE to touch up in some area like my chin.  I was using a Kai blade with a guard on it, but I switched out for a normal blade and shaved and things went well, though I go slow lol

All of this is leading me up to tracking down a true kamisori at some point, something in a decent price range and with a blade that isn't too long.  I'm wanting a blade length about the same as a DE blade is, anything larger I think would be too big for me.

So if anyone has a suggestion that would be great, pics of your kamisori razor also appreciated Big Grin

So, just to be clear....  You're looking for a traditional kamisori straight razor?  Or are you looking for one with a replaceable blade?

Regarding traditional, I have a US-made western grind Kamisori from J3 Forge, and a traditional (assymetric) grind Kamisori from Kanenaga.  Both are great shavers, although the point on the J3 needs to be "muted" a bit.  It's a biter.  Any questions, feel free to ask.

I had regular kamisori, and kamisori style shavette.
And a faux kamisori, because of the symmetric gring.
I really do not like the kamisori style handle.
It was shaped for japanese barbers, not intended for personal use.

I much more prefer the folding kamisori.
Bot, both actual kamisori and shavette.
My fav is the shavette, because of the blade maintenance.

Hope you like my pics.

In the last one I've used an axe style knot to help the grip.

Traditional, yes, or western style, either version, I have a replaceable blade one already, using it to practice Smile

Very nice pics! Big Grin  Ya, I'd like a rounded point on mine for for, the easier to use the better for me lol  Thanks for sharing! Smile

I'd definitely look for one with a handle that I think I could use, as personally I don't like a folding handle, which is why I don't use a straight, I have a shavette straight to, just can't get it right for some reason Tongue    Awesome pics, thanks for the share Smile

Traditional Kamisori for me are the best, really smooth and at the same time very deep in term of cut, so far I have 2 kamisori and one of them it’s a Iwasaki 8/8, the beard is afraid of that Iwasaki ?
