Recently I picked up some Truefitt & Hill Apsley Cream on sale. I don't use a lot of creams due to my experiences in the past, I find most creams don't have a lot of slickness and tend to leave my skin feeling dry after a shave. Well I'd heard some good things about Truefitt & Hill and for what I paid I decided to give it a shot, I find the retail asking price to be higher than what I'd like to spend normally when I have plenty of fantastic products that cost less. The cream comes in a standard heavy duty black tub in a box. The ingredients are some things I recognize and some things I don't: Aqua (Water), Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Acid, Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Limonene, Hydroxycitronellal, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Butyphenyl Methylpropional. I get the scent as something I have smelled before, to my nose this smells like Terre de Hermes, due to the presence of vetiver and citrus, but the citrus here isn't a dirty citrus. Notes from company are: vertiver, grapefruit, pepper, cedar, patchouli, and musk. Well it is a pleasant scent to me.
The shave: But how does it perform? This is where it surprized me, it was a thick rich lather with excellent slickness that took no time to whip up. The residual slickness was unlike any cream I have used before. I did my normal 2.5 pass shave with a Gillette Old Type, and few touch ups and have to say this shave was well above average, my usual trouble spots were closer than normal (non-existent) and no irritation. Not to mention how luxurious the whole process felt (my perception)
Bottom Line:This is a solid performer that has changed my perception of what a cream can be, it is on the pricier side but as a treat once and a while when I want to feel pampered and I don't want to work to hard to build a great lather this will be a go to, can I recommend it, based on performance alone I will, but it is a luxury and you can achieve similar results for less, but if you can find it on sale for a reasonable price, only you can make the decision for yourself if this is worth the purchase.
