THINK YOU'VE TRIED EVERY SHAVE SOAP BASE THERE IS? YOU HAVEN'T.
FŌM SHAVING SŌP is infused with all the skin healing qualities of craft beer (without the alcohol, in case you were wondering). Hops produce skin softening amino acids and the beer's active yeast content contains high amounts of vitamin B3, B6 and B9 which moisturize and repair the skin's elasticity. Of course, the soap also contains all natural oils and butters with high levels of Stearic Acid to ensure a thick dense lather, a beautiful slickness throughout your shave and excellent post shave hydration. Sounds good right? It is!
FŌM comes in FOUR fantastic scents:
No. 1 - Bay Rum/Vanilla
No. 2 - Lemon/Cedarwood/Patchouli/Lavender
No. 3 - Lavender/Mint
No. 4 - Coriander/Myrrh/Grapefruit
We are using only the finest quality natural essential oils to bring these scents to life, choosing to bypass synthetic fragrances and wanted our scents to be pleasing while lathering and shaving, but not overwhelming.
FŌM SHAVING SŌP is completely vegan, wonderfully different, extremely effective and we bet most of you have never shaved with beer before (right?) FŌM will be a definite stand out in your shave soap collection and don't forget about our new Mango Wood shave soap bowls from Parker Shaving option to class things up a bit!
Cheers!

I have tried well over 100 soap bases, but I realize I have only tried a fraction of the soaps available. However, it is unlikely that I will be trying FŌM SHAVING SŌP.

Generally, I avoid simple scents like those that are being offered. The reason is my skin sensitivities.

1. Bay rum,/vanilla. Although I have no issue with bay or vanilla, most bay rum scents contain either clove or cinnamon, both of which irritate my face.
2. Lemon/Cedarwood/Patchouli/Lavender - I would probably love the aroma. However, my skin is very sensitive to lemon. Since that is the first note, I would not purchase that scent.
No. 3 - Lavender/Mint. I would love the aroma of these two herbs. However, my face cannot tolerate peppermint or menthol so I avoid mint based scents.
No. 4 - Coriander/Myrrh/Grapefruit - I am not a fan of coriander, but I do not avoid it. My skin is very sensitive to grapefruit, so I would skip this one as well.

I am not trying to throw ice water on your aspirations. However, I did want to make you aware of issues that certain potential customers may have with the soaps. There are a few soapmakers that I avoid because of the scents they offer. it sounds like FŌM SHAVING SŌP may be another.

There are many soaps in my collection that do contain some of the scent notes to which I am sensitive. I can tolerate them if they are part of a complex accord and no individual scent note is concentrated to the point of irritating my face. I have over 200 soaps in my collection. Almost all of them have a minimum of six scent notes and most have many more than that. The only simple scents in that collection are those that contain scent notes I know will not irritate my skin.

Hi Ray,

Although I appreciate the in depth breakdown of why FOM may not be for you, I have to tell you that you seem like an extreme case.  I too have sensitive skin and the purpose of creating FOM was to create a slightly different product that a majority of people would not react to, but also understanding the term "You can't please everyone all the time".

We chose an all vegan base for this line and even went so far as to use Essential Oils for these scents over synthetic fragrances.  We used a craft beer base because the ingredients in beer has been used to treat all sorts of skin conditions for thousands of years.  Generally, a lot of allergies and issues that arise from shave soaps come from animal tallows that a lot of companies use in their soap bases.  I've had people contact me to make sure our base was free of tallow and completely vegan because of their sensitivities.  We've had a very good response to our product from the scents and overall slickness to its excellent post shave hydration.  I'm sorry you feel our soaps will react to your sensitivities and you are certainly entitled to your opinions, but we're confident that a majority of shavers do not have the kind of sensitivities you seem to have.  We went as natural as possible with our soap base and use high quality Essential Oils for all our scents.  I am fully aware that people have sensitivities to certain products and that people deal with all sorts of issues while shaving, including hard water, etc.  Still, we are extremely happy with how FOM turned out and the response its been receiving.  We're a small but growing father and son run artisan company (I'm the son) looking to break into a very tough market and the support we've had for our hand-crafted razor designs and concepts along with our first shot at a shave soap line have been overwhelmingly positive.  Again, I appreciate you bringing your opinions to me Ray but as I mentioned earlier, I'm going to have to chalk your situation up to "You can't please everyone all the time".  At least you know what works and doesn't work for you and that's a good thing.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply and I do wish you every success. I love trying new soaps (as my overflowing shelves attest), but I probably won't be trying yours, at least not until you develop some more complex scents. I am sure there are plenty of people with skin less sensitive than mine who will love your scents. I love the aroma of scents like yours, but my skin just won't allow me to use them.

Perhaps a natural or unscented offering might round out your lineup.  I don't know if the base lends itself to such but I feel to suggest it.

Hi Max,

Thanks for reaching out with your suggestion.  Its not a bad idea but in all honesty, I'm really not sure what the beer base would be like without a scent.  Something to look into and think about (and maybe test).

Cheers!
