Yes, exactly the same, just shorter.

Guys I just read the Nodachi passaround thread, it seems like some people are using other handles with the Nodachi head. I thought the threading was proprietary, is that not true? Can you use any handle with the Nodachi head?

If it's only certain other handles that can be used is there a list of what fits the Nodachi threading? Thanks

Threading is not proprietary though some third party handles may require a nylon washer to seat properly.

I wouldn't guarantee that as length of the threading does vary some among handles. But I've had good luck.Which do you want to use?

You are thinking of the early Masamune caps where the upper thread had a shank running significantly before threading. The original design is the proper engineering methodology to reduce stress risers to withstand physical shocks such as drops without breaking. Unfortunately the industry standard does not embrace that philosophy and it made the assembly proprietary. In response to criticism from dfoulk and other Masamune trialers that aftermarket handles were not interchangable, Tatara changed the design in the Nodachi and believe newer Masamune.

Interesting, didn't realise that new Masamunes are different. I know they recently stopped doing serial numbers on the baseplates to match the Nodachi plate.
