I enjoy using menthol after shaving.  I mix real menthol crystals in with Thayers and it makes a great aftershave.  Real menthol crystals will dissolve in witch hazel, turning it cloudy white, as long as it has alcohol in it.

I recently have also started using synthetic menthol in my aftershave routine.  Barrister and Mann makes a product called “Terror” which has synthetic menthol mixed with alcohol and comes in the form of a small 2 ounce bottle.  It has a small dropper so you can add one or two drops as needed.

I find there is a big difference between synthetic and regular real menthol.  Each one provides a different facial feeling and the synthetic version lasts really long.   Even after the synthetic dries on your face, it can be reactivated by wetting your face or just licking your lips.  The real menthol for me dissipates faster but provides a better feeling.  The facial feeling difference is subtle yet far more pleasant with the real stuff.

What do you guys think?  What’s better real or synthetic?

Menthol crystals for me. I found using Terror specifically I was contamininating everything I touched. I scrubbed my hands like a surgeon and I could still make other things cold. It's a weird cold IMO. Not like cryogen for instance.

Probably works for many but I dumped that Terror splash the very next day.

Both are pleasing to me. Some folks have done some fun things with the synthetic varieties though!
