Super Lather

Remember super lathers? When I started out a few years back lots of guys would mix shaving cream with shaving soap, usually by adding a bit of the cream into the soap lather while you worked it up in the lather bowl but you could do it with a face lather too.  It was a way of enhancing the lather for an improved shave. It did make for a richer lather although I’m not sure it was any slicker. It was a scent destroyer as well. I don’t hear about super lathers nowadays, maybe because soaps have improved so that there doesn’t seem to be a need to improve the lather.

Super lather, Uber lather, I never did any of that but I sure read a lot about it. Lots of things have changed in a relatively short time or perhaps it’s still happening a lot and because it’s not new, guys don’t share? Seems frankenrazors have the forefront now. Would like to know is others besides Ischiapp are regularly making supers.

I'm like you. Have read about it for years but never saw the need to do it myself.

Give it a try and report back with your thoughts. It’s easy to do if you bowl lather, just put a bit of shaving cream into the lather bowl as you work up your soap lather. If you face lather, wait until you’ve got a good soap  lather on your brush then put a bit of shaving cream on your brush and work it into your face. Good luck

When I have a hard puck soap or a poor quality soap, I place a drop of Body Shop Maca Root & Aloe shaving cream in the bowl first. This particular cream has very little scent, and has little affect on the soap scent...but this cream is fantastic for kicking up lesser or hard soaps into a fantastic performance lather (slickness and protection). I have several hard pucks and poor quality soaps that I love the scent profile, and are unique enough to keep in my rotation.

You’ve inspired me to try this with those awful performing but great smelling Ogallala soap pucks I have. I usually use the Nivea sensitive cream. It’s excellent cream at the right price
