So ya, of course I had to do a super soap shootout... for science!

No judgement Paul and you owe no explanation. I saw it was a bst purchase. I was just prompted to state some random thoughts. My Hub City is hostage to USPS but should be here tomorrow

I’m very interested to hear your thoughts on Hub City. I find it to be very good.

I did as well as I've had a sample of the Red Cabin and wanted a couple tubs for months now. I'm more patient than Fluffy Ken says I am Big Grin

Razor: Yates - Hybrid M Plate w/ Razorock DLC Halo Handle
Brush: Elite 28mm
Soap: Grooming Dept - After the Fire
Aftershave: Trotter Handcrafts
Blade: Wizamet

Great shave today. Seriously love the Yates. The M plate is soooo smooth and efficient. Tried an older GD soap. Somehow I like the performance of this one better than the new ones.... go figure.

My Pre & Post shave toner project is coming along pretty well. I added a new ingredient that helps it a bit. I'm trying to order 10 ml sample bottles today for anyone that is interested in trying it. I would love to gather some feedback in the near future.
Very interesting... Is Unscented? Mentholated?

I've been using Stirling Glacial Post shave balm as a Preshave because it is unscented and has a menthol component. I was warned the witch hazel could be trouble for the Preshave purposes, but so far it's better than going without one. Additionally, I was just looking at Preshave oils this morning, as I want to experiment with other choices.

If you need another volunteer, I'd be glad to try it.

Very cool. Thanks guys... I'll get samples out to you as soon as I feel its ready for the tough critics Wink

mrdoug For now, I've decided to keep it unscented (for the most part) and non-menthol. I need to get the base perfected first then goof around with scents, etc

Dave in KY - Yea, I've always disliked Pre Shaves too.... most are snake oil IMO... what can I say, I like a good challenge!

Has a decent amount of smokiness. Its a Barbershop scent with a lime note, and smoke twist.

Razor: Blackland Blackbird w/ TiBam Titanium Handle
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts w/ 26mm Oumo Knot
Soap: Grooming Dept - Amore (duck tallow formula)
Aftershave: Trotter Handcrafts (beta)

Wrapped up my Grooming Dept testing today with the latest and greatest Mallard formula. Not a huge fan of this scent... hard to explain why, but I do see why it was a Valentines Day release. It has a sweet/fruity/floral thing going. Others will probably love it, but its clearly outta my wheelhouse. Performance was really good, but was it better than the last 3 GD formulas I tried? Hmmm... not really IMO. I think my favorite GD was the old Duck & Beef Tallow from several years back. This was a great test for me to understand new formulas are not necessary "better" (for me). It's honestly all VERY good shave soap... I just happen to think the clear winner was NOT what I expected!
