They never really closed, but they go in spurts and stops. I guess they let their products dwindle down then crank out a few batches of soap and repeat the cycle. They can be hard to contact, especially if you have questions. She has no presence on this forum. B&B exploits the use of Mrs Moore's name for fundraisers, I assume with permission from Wendy her daughter, the owner and operator of SCS.
SCS soaps only come in 3 oz cone shaped pucks. The aluminum screw top containers are top notch. I found that the cone shaped soaps are awkward to use in a mug, and when left to open air, they lose their scent quicker than most others. They dont fit tight in the containers so loading from there gives you a dancing puck. Another word on the soap. It was bashed a bit because of the ingredient list. SCS was one of the first domestic family owned shave soap makers. So they came of age before the use of alot of the shea butters, dual lye blends, natural ingredients etc. So specifically people dislike the use of SLS in the soap as better ingredients can be used in its place. But their recipe is set, and have stayed true to it since their inception, so, it is what it is. They dont release new blends. They havent a had new release of anything to speak of in yrs. No limited edition runs. What you see is all you will ever get.
The soap performance was OK, but the odd shaped puck, and the rapid loss of scent, it was easy to move on from. Performance was acceptable.
Where SCS really shines in my opinion is their ASL. Their sandalwood ASL is good. The Patchouli ASL is hands down the best. And even better is their "Smoke and Beads"...this is Patchouli with a lemon twist. I have a few bottles of each, and value their scent and performance above even the vaulted and over valued Floid Blue. I keep tabs on the website and if I ever see they may be closing, I will buy the rest of their Patchouli blends that they have. (of course if you dont like Patchouli, you wouldnt understand)I bought the Bulgarian Rose balm for the leg shaver, she really likes it.
I think SCS products should be tried by everyone at least once. But opinion is the same for Williams and Arko too. Form your opinion, enjoy your experience, and let that be the judge for your future endeavors.
