HSOTD/SOTD 2/8/23

Mail call day! My new Yates 921 EH Hybrid in Titanium arrived yesterday, so I got to break it in this morning with a Gillette Platinum blade and one of my favorite soap/after shave combinations. Its a rainy, thunderstorm kind of day in North Texas, and this soap/after shave is very reminiscent of a warm cabin with a fire burning, coffee, bacon and good times - so that was my theme, combined with Tom Ford's excellent Tobacco Vanille EdT. Also started the morning with a box of blessings, a gift from my dad - wonderful way to start the day!

The new Yates titanium 921 performed like magic. Its about half the weight of my stainless 921, and that lighter weight allows a softer, lighter touch. Very important with these large gap, positive exposure (1.27mm gap, +0.23mm exposure) razors. As always, the EH provides a fantastically efficient, smooth AND irritation free shave. Even though the gap and exposure is big, its pretty much an autopilot razor that just removes stubble without effort. I got the hybrid base plate, so its a scalloped bar on one side, and open comb on the other. The open comb, unlike the Ti Blackbird that I have, is NOT sharp and irritating - its pleasantly smooth. I found that the OC side worked great for the WTG pass, and I used the SB for the ATG pass. I'm thrilled with its performance. This is my #1 daily razor.
