Phoenix & Beau Albion Soap

After 3 consecutive days of using Obsessive Soap Perfectionist shaving soaps, today was the turn of another UK artisan, Phoenix & Beau. I wrote, yesterday, how impressed I was with James' soaps, but for the post shave feel which didn't quite match three of the US artisans I enjoy using. I was eager to compare these P&B soaps and after just one use, my favourite is clear. It's P&B. It's a softer soap than OSP which wouldn't be my preferred choice; I much prefer harder soaps. Lathering is easy, thirsty like OSP, but it's much easier to get the water ratio correct with P&B, and faster. Slickness and cushion I'd rate about the same, but it's in the rinsing off that the better post shave feel can be predicted, and subsequently noted. Is there a downside to P&B? Well, not with the soap, itself, but more the packaging. The plastic is softer and the container has flex on the sides as you grip it. Not a huge issue, however, I do consider this a let down after giving this soap the thumbs up in performance. Hopefully, Kerry and Sarah will consider another option in the near future.

Update. I've spoken with Kerry, this morning, who says is aware of the container issue and is looking to rectify as soon as a suitable alternative can be found. Smile

Prep: Lots of hot water to the face and a smearing of Prep preshave
Razor: 1940s Super Speed
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (6)
Brush: Maggard Razors 24mm Purple Swirl
Lather: Sapone Di Paolo Agrume
Post: Lucky Tiger then Folsom & Co. Capri

Wow! @"Sapone Di Paolo" has a real winner with Agrume. It smells of very sweet, tart limes to me. Wife smelled it and she thought it smelled like basil. I don't get any basil out of it, however. But it's obviously there. My wife did not see the lid and did not know the scent is of limes and basil.

Agrume makes great, slick lather that is quite protective. It's a great soap and I am glad I took a chance on it. Capri is the perfect splash after shaving with Agrume. Definitely time to change that blade, though.

I'll give SDP's Bosco soap a try next shave.
