All aboard for the Steampunk train!!

My first non MWF shave for a month and my first use of Tabula Rasa Steampunk. Its good stuff, can't quite put my finger on the scent but I get very subtle sweet wood scents. Unfortunately I under loaded the brush and pass 2 and beyond was a very austere experience but it worked great. From what I can see from my first lathering, this stuff is very soft and won't last long and for £19 ($27) a tub I probably won't buy it again. Having said that I had an irritation and redness free shave and it was a comfortable shave despite the lather thinning out quickly.

Will, as you know, I love Steam Punk but I certainly agree with you about the longevity of a tub.  I load it heavily so the tub won't last me as long as most other soaps and creams I have but I don't care because, for me, it is one of life's little pleasures. Smile

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso pre-shave cream - Sandalwood
Soap: Wickham's Super Smooth - Sheridan's
Bowl: Woodhead Tall Large Scuttle
Brush: Muhle 23mm Kosmo synthetic
Razor: Schick Injector E2
Blade: Schick Injector - Japan (1)
After: WH, Benjamin's Bay Rum (menthol) AS, C&E W.Indian Lime ASB

First use of a Japanese Injector blade in my E2 razor and I could immediately tell this needed a light touch and full concentration. The thing about Injector blades is that you can't palm-strop them before first use so I'm thinking of this shave as taking the edge off the blade.

This Wickham's soap is anymuch as good as my best soaps, but I found the soap kind of curdles after a few months. Soap is still fine but it forms tiny balls of soap within the croap which take longer to form into lather so you end up with tiny bits of undissolved soap in the lather. Not really a problem but a bit annoying.

Anyway, result nice BBS (squid-skin) but the actual shave felt a little scratchy. I'll have another go tomorrow.

Have a great weekend, folks.

It may well grow on me as well but I'm more of a hard soap guy these days. You need to check out The Gentleman's Groomroom in Dundee when you visit Scotland again. They stock the whole Tabula Rasa range!

Very nice, Mike. You don't come across black handle E types too often. Nice find!

Soap: Crabtree & Evelyn Mysore Sandalwood circa 1978;
Brush: F7 (inspired by M7 and L7) by Vladimir Ferdman, with the Epsilon two band knot;
Razor: Mongoose B3 on UFO Tornado;
AS: Pitralon Classic.

I was thoroughly impressed by this newly acquired vintage Crabtree & Evelin Mysore soap. I wish the smell was a bit stronger, but even with what is left, this soap perhaps is one of the classiest shaving soaps I tried.
