SOTD 01/22/20

SWMBO returns this afternoon, so I get to indulge my scent deprivation syndrome ((SDS) for one last day. After a series of great shaves with my Gibbs Adjustable, I decided to spend the next few days shaving with one of my favorites, the LaResche 77. Although the razor appears intimidating, it’s actually one of the smoothest shavers in my Den. Armed with a Suneko blade, it swept right through my whiskers cushioned by a Soap Commander ‘Honor’ lather enhanced by PAA’s Preshave Cube. Two passes on the face for a near BBS and one and a half on the still tender noggin, recovering from its savaging by my defective Rex two days ago, and I happily settled for a very easy DFS.

After sending Matt Pisarcik numerous detailed photos, he’s asked that I send the Rex in for repair/servicing. So all is well on that front.

I really enjoyed the ‘Honor’ soap and Ogallala Bay Rum/Sandalwood AS, which I can’t use when SWMBO’s around. So all is well in southeastern PA! I feel clean, smoooth and refreshed, ready for the day!

RAZOR: LaResche 77
BLADE: Suneko
PREP: Cold water rinse and scrub with PAA’s Preshave Cube Soap
BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
SOAP: Soap Commander Honor
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood AS Splash

No photos as it is difficult with the 5 and 3 year old pounding on the door to get in the bathroom because they want to "shave", but today's SOTD was disappointing.
EJ razor with a Personna MedPrep on its third shave, Razorock Dead Sea lathered with a Semogue 610.

Prep consisted, as it always does, of a piping hot shower while the brush soaks, and a face wash with a retired shave soap that didn't make the cut.

There were multiple issues with this shave.

1).  I should not have pushed the blade to 3.  I have been doing this for many years.  I know that 2 shaves is my max for DE blades.  For some reason, I just wanted to push it past the two shaves.  Bad idea.

2). I am not a fan of the Dead Sea shaving soap from RazoRock.  Even though it was my first shave with it, I can tell it will not remain in my den.

3). The Semogue is not yet broken in.  I just replaced three brushes - a well worn SOC that became a shedder on it's fourth year, a five year Old Omega 49 that has simply been giving up a bristle or two per shave and it was finally time to retire - and a smaller Omega with resin handle that it at least ten years old and was ready for to live out its golden years.  I actually may have that reknotted (I also just sold two Thater two bands, and a Taj Mistura on another site).  I replaced those brushes with the 610, another Omega 49 in red, a synth and a 22mm whipped dog silvertip.

Those issues combined made for one lousy shave this morning.

Hey, it happens, especially when it comes to pushing a blade past its "sell by date."  I think a lot of us have been there.Rolleyes
