April 13th
Razor: Karve brass widecap & SB C Plate, with Triad brass Pineapple handle
Blade: Gillette Permasharp (5)
Brush: Zenith boar
Pre-shave: Cold water
Soap: Home brew mix of Van Der Hagen, Mysore Sandal, & GD Maleki  (approximately 80 grams/50 grams/5 grams, respectively)
Post: Nivea Cooling post-shave balm and a small bit of Cooper & French Santa’s Workshop (for scent)
Face: one pass WTG; Neck Two passes WTG-ATG
Result: CCS

Added a little of the newer GD Maleki to tone down the scent of the VDR. (It’s “floral-sweet” in a “baby wipes” kind of way.  The Mysore helped, but the GD Maleki finished the job).  Heated the VDR-Mysore Sandal mix in the microwave, (10 second bursts, and checking each time). Did this just enugh to soften it but without liquifying it.  Then added the GD.  Needed only 5 grams or so of the GD to knock back the VDR scent.  That amount of the GD also noticeably improved the lather structure and post-shave feel of the mix.  This also had the beneficial effect of adding some of the wonderful Maleki scent, but toning that down too; I had found the scent of the brand new Maleki too strong by itself.  (The older GD Maleki tubs, which I had previously purchased off the BST, are more mellow, perhaps from aging).  The Maleki compliments the Mysore Sandal very nicely.  Overall, for my nose, it seems a nice outcome.  It was a fun experiment too.  [I’m pretty sure I will try some more of this kind of mad scientist stuff].

Happy Shaves to the Gentlemen
