This is the original Floris No. 89 shaving soap, considered by many to be one of the very best shaving soaps ever made. The No. 89 fragrance was launched by Floris in 1951. It has citrus, aromatic, fresh spicy, and woody accords. Top notes are bergamot, orange, lavender, neroli, nutmeg, and petitgrain; middles notes are geranium, rose, and ylang-ylang; and base notes are Virginia cedar, oakmoss, sandalwood, vetiver, and musk. The soap still has its full scent, which becomes more pronounced with lathering.
The box does not list ingredients, but I believe the soap is tallow based. After reformulations in 2008 and 2011, the general consensus has been that the more modern variations are not at all close in quality to the original version. This soap easily produces dense, slick lather that contributes to a perfect shaving experience.
The soap comes in the beautiful light wood lidded bowl. The bowl and soap in the images are from a box I opened for use and are shown simply to illustrate what is in the sealed box that is for sale, which has not ever been opened. It is from vintage stock carried decades ago by Colonial Drug.
I have 2 of these to sell. $100 each shipped CONUS. No trade offers, please. All Sold
