Solar Eclipse Glasses

I'd like to pick up a few pair for the Aug 21 eclipse. Any suggestions where to look other than the auction sites?

When I found the link it was down for maintenance so I have no idea as to price. They were what I would consider to be expensive from what I saw on Amazon.

We got ours from Amazon a while back. American Paper Optics. Now, the local tv station is giving them away. Make sure they are ISO/CE certified and watch out for knockoffs.

Don't even think of it! It needs to filter out, if I remember correctly, all but 1/100,000th of the light or you risk damage to the eyes. At totality it's OK to look at with the naked eye though.

I have a filter for my telescope that I use to look at the sun and it just looks like a mirror.

I forgot! Welding glass! Shade 14 welding glass would be safe for unaided eye viewing. But be sure to put it in front of the eyes BEFORE looking at the sun. After it's in front of the eyes then tilt the head up. Or use a welding helmet with the #14 lens in place. Or one can set up a pinhole "camera" and project an image of the sun onto a piece of paper to view it. I think you'd want to have the viewing room darkened though. Or a lens from a camera would do the same thing (projecting an image onto a screen (piece of paper).

Edit: FWIW, oxy/acetylene welding goggles are NOT dense enough for viewing the sun. Please don't confuse them for what I suggested to use.

Some public libraries have a few to give away free. By doing a Google search you can find listings of which libraries those are.

While seeing the solar eclipse, make to watch it with the proper polarized glasses. Do not ever see it with the naked eyes, it can harm your eyes.
