I was just wondering how the people around here handle their shaving soaps. Do you keep them open after use to air-dry? you put the lid back right after the shave? Does it matter for hard/soft soaps?

Really interested to hear about your routine.

I wash out remaining lather first, then air dry the soap and put the lid back on later.

+1 (Lid replaced 24 hrs later)

That's my routine.  washout remaining lather and dry outside container and let soap dry for a few hours then put lid back on..

any particular reason why you wash out any remaining lather inside the container? I would think that any remaining lather would eventually harden up again and be reusable in the future.

I always rinse out the lather too. I find the left over dried protlather gross.

Same principal as my toothbrush. Sure it may be able to be rehydrated but I'm not keen on reusing used cleaning products.

An interesting analogy, @Bruce. It made me laugh and get grossed out at the same time. Tongue

Maybe I will leave remaining soap in after shaving. Your right!! it's wasting soap..i will now save it.

I wash out the proto lather as well (just because I like that smooth surface for my brush next time) shake out the jar and let air dry overnight as I shave at night. In the morning I put the lid back on and screw tight.

I'm a little paranoid about my soaps/croaps losing scent.

I handle my shaving soap by putting it in the mug, after which it requires no further maintenance.

I pat dry the proto-lather with a tissue and then leave the soap, with the cap off, to air dry for about 12 hours (sometimes even longer if I'm lazy). For very soft soaps, sometimes I just scoop out an almond size and bowl-lather, so no maintenance is required.

Bottom line, soaps don't really need maintenance.

Air dry, leave lather in, cover or uncover, it won't really damage the soap.

Seems to be too much over thinking for me. Use, rinse (or don't), cover (or don't), use again

I use it, rinse it, and let it sit open throughout the day to dry out, and then I put the lid on and put it away. The hardest part is deciding which soap to use the next day.

I have the same issue... so many great soaps out there; can't seem to stop buying!
