Hi folks. Most of you know that I am a student of straight razors, always striving to learn newer, better, faster, or simply different techniques to achieve a fine shaving edge on my straights. I have my Jnat and nagura fairly well dialed in, providing outstanding edges. I have my Arkansas stones fairly well dialed in, and also producing great edges. My experience with slates is minimal, but will be expanding in the future,
Coticules have evaded me thus far. I have never even held one. I have never even seen one in real life. I would like to change that.
I know that coticules are among the most variable of the natural hones out there, with some being incredibly difficult to learn, and some seemingly easy. They also come in a wide variety of sizes.
Me...I prefer to hold my stones in my hand while honing. It's a Zen thing for me. So I am looking for a razor-quality, hand-sized natural coticule that will be reasonably easy for me to get a feeling for and start getting decent edges with. I realize I will have to practice, and that a hone that is 'easy" for one may be trying for someone else. I get it.
Still...that's what I am hoping to find.
