Shrinking Photos when Quoted

What about a link to a separate thread where members can discuss whatever that may come up related to the SOTD but not a SOTD.  Sometimes its comments on the pic or the gear and sometimes its off on a tangent.  You would leave the SOTD uncluttered with replies and quotes and it would be pure SOTD  pics with likes.  All the comments replies and non sequitors would be in the separate SOTD replies thread.

I understand the idea, and in a way, it’s parallel to what I was thinking, the end result being: less clutter on the actual SOTD thread. However, I also agree with Andrew that things could get convoluted pretty quickly.

I guess the good thing in all this is that each SOTD thread only lasts for a week, so each week that follows we at least get to start on a clean slate.

Looking at the length of the “soap/aftershave you used” and similar threads, I wonder if those would also benefit from perhaps a monthly “reset,” but that’s of course up to the moderators.

leefish and andrewjs18, I just returned to re-read the quoted post, and only now do I understand its full meaning. That’s because I’ve been using the dark theme ever since it became available. So I did not realize that the main theme is still showing quoted images in their full resolution.

First of all, as leefish already knows, I very much appreciate the dark theme. But then this functionality of shrinking quoted images — I think it is superb! The Shave of the Day threads are so much more pleasant to browse now. The benefits of shrinking quoted images are:
• It is much easier to realize which image is the original and which is a quoted version.
• The threads with a lot of quoted images seem much less cluttered now.
• The feeling of scrolling through the same images over and over again is gone.

In my experience, this functionality has been working great! It has improved the site, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend implementing it throughout the site (with both themes).

I'll have to look into it again. all of my free time has been tied up with the review system. now that that is live and stable, I can move on to other things on the site.

Indeed, it was working really well, and then the dark theme got obliterated. However, I will make time this weekend with Andrew to fix it. And roll to all themes.'
