How much shedding is normal/acceptable? I've used my Thater 3 times now and each time it has shed 4-5 hairs. Does this stop eventually?

It's a very dense knot ( 4125/3). I've never had a badger brush before so I don't know what's normal?

That seems higher than what I have experienced with any of my Thaters.
To be vintage it must be older than me!
The last razor I bought was the next to last razor I will ever buy!

How long are the hairs that are coming from the knot?

They seemed pretty long.

I would guess all in all, in the 3 times I have lathered the brush it has shed probably a total of 6-10 hairs.

6-10 hairs I would simply ignore. If it continues though contact the seller and ask if what you experience is normal.

From a well respected brush supplier, sounds like on the higher end of normal or acceptable. As jar stated, contact Thater if continues.

Assume rinsing with warm water (not hot), not pressing extra hard, not stored in cabinet after use, etc. Thater makes excellent brushes - I l want one someday.

I don't believe I've ever had more than one hair or two shed from a premium brush. I'd be concerned if I were you. I've have Thaters, Shavemacs, Paladins and like I say, one or two here and there and usually its over. What you're experiencing I've seen out of boar hair brushes before but not a premium badger.

I think I will keep using it for a bit and see if it stops. If not I suppose I will have to deal with Thater customer service.

Well, I used it a few minutes ago and it didn't shed a hair. Hopefully the trend continues because it really is a great brush and I don't want to give it up.

I had a brush that was a terrible shedder (15 to 20 hairs a shave). The vendor instructed me to wash the brush, let it dry, and then run a comb through it. He asked me to do this two times. When it continued shedding I exchanged the brush.

I have quite a few brushes and most have never shed a hair. However, some of the denser brushes may shed 1 or 2 hairs - but this is perfectly normal and eventually stops.
