Shave #2 with the Twig. Audible is about the same as the last two days with the Thorn, but not taking down as much on the first pass. But this is why we do multiple passes, something about reduction versus elimination on the pass itself. By the end, near glass-like smoothness with no irritation around the chin and mouth corners. However, the maskne bumps from the past 2 days irritation did have a nick. So, not the Twig, but me being too aggressive over the area.

After the shave, I cleaned the razors up for their next stop. I will be buying them after the pass around, but right now think I'll only keep the Twig. I will post this later in the Twig and Thorn Pass Around thread, giving first dibs to any participant that wants the Thorn. I think. I'll wait until after they return to me to make that decision. But I have no problem whatsoever buying both, as the proceeds are going to Dan's belovoded Coco's medical costs. We help where we can for loved ones, be they human or our furry children.

I can see the bottom of the Noble Otter Bare, one quarter (USD!) sized hole, so I may stick with this soap until the tub is clean. I did that with the Ethos and surprisingly enjoyed it more than I thought I would. So I'll do it to the Bare as well.

Been scouring the forums looking for reviews on the Era razor from Blackland. Found a handful here and there. Most like it, some came with issues, most ordered Level 5 plates. I want to read about 2-4, as that is my supposed sweet spot based on the Christopher Bradely razor (of which B is the best for me).

and Happy Twos Day, everyone! Anyone do anything double fun today? (mrdoug is hopefully now recovering and lounging in bed with visions of sugar plums dancing in his head from the anesthetics!) Speedy recovery, Paul!

Nice write-up Eric.  I received my ERA w/ #3 (middle-of-the-road) plate today.  I will post my impressions after spending some time with it.

that sounds great, Mike! I look forward to reading what you think about it. I need more razors like I need more brushes and soaps, lol, but curiosity is a thing!

Many, many thanks for the support and sleuthing! I feel a bit better about going forward, but I have decided to let the potential seller make contact with me, and Goods & Services only. Maybe even a photo with username and date!

Thanks again, gentlemen!

I hiked up my big boy pants this morning and had my first shave with Mitchell's Wool Fat. I bought a puck from Amazon back in mid-September and grated it into a tub. I remember thinking it had quite an odor, pleasant, clean, but also seemed strong enough for me to notice without having to put my nose on the puck. I thought, "This won't pass her nose!" and I left it uncovered for some time in the boiler room, hoping to get rid of some scent. I never smelled it when I went into that room, but it still seemed strong if I held the puck.

So, it sat on a shelf in the basement, covered, since November. And then this week I decided to use it on a workday, in order to be over and done before my wife needs the bathroom. Plan was really working out, until she came in on pass 2!

"Keep cool," I thought to myself, and I carried on with my lathering. We chatted a bit about what our day's would be like, and then she left, with nary a word about a strong scent. Success? Time will tell.

The shave was very good, the scent grew on my, and maybe I became nose-blind to it, for I could only smell it when I re-lathered. Now, sitting down to my morning oatmeal, I can smell it if I touch my face. I think it'll be okay. 30 minutes post-shave, my skin feels a little dry, even after applying Zingari Man's aftershave balm, but is it The Fat or the plummeting temp outside? The more the furnace runs (forced air), the drier the home gets, even with a humidifier chugging away in the living room.

All in all, I think the Fat could be a soap for workdays, as long as none of my colleagues comment on it today.

Thanks for reading, comments appreciated, and I hope you all have a great day!

Great that you passed the test with it so far Eric. If you're feeling dry it's got to be the air because it's certainly not The Fat! Big Grin Have a great day

Yikes the co-workers have veto authority on your soap selection?
Here at the county. Any comment (on soap or aftershave)  from mine would get a swift and immediate response.  The tone and content might not be PG13.

My apologies for not immediately referencing my ERA initial reactions here, in your journal.  I noticed your "like" and remembered our discussion of it.  FWIW the post was made late at night, and I have been somewhat exhausted caring for Mrs. HighSpeed, who recently had a total knee replacement.  The operation was a success, but the recovery is always a challenge.

We are, when convenient for the Big Bosses, considered health care field, and most doc's offices and hospitals post that they are nonperfumed. We had a distinct manager that was very scent forward and it stayed up your nose for a while after he left! So they ask us to tone it down, for the patient/customer at the pharmacy.

No one really gets veto power, but I try not to invite murmurs that may make it up the ladder. I got myself in hot water by putting the brand at risk (my interpretation) so I have to be careful and play nicely with the bosses! In college terms, I am on a sort of academic probation period and am being helped to succeed. But there are those days I want to say, "Stifle it, Edith!"

Mike, not to worry! Some days there are things that are more important than shaving notes!  Tongue

May the missus have a good and speedy recovery, and may you have the energy to be there for her! All is well, my friend!

I wish my co-workers smelled like MWF. It's always been my favorite scent in the wet shaving world.
