A couple more shaves on this blade and it is still doing pretty well. I definitely need to minimize the stress on the edge by focusing on conservative beard reduction. Jumping right into an ATG pass is a no-no with these blades for me. When the blade is good, OneBlade performs better in the difficult spots than anything I've ever used. The longer I use it I seem to develop an even larger appreciation for the handle ergonomics. I can confidently change my grip by feel only on the fly, right in the middle of a pass. This is a nice bonus as my beard map swirls around in different directions requiring constant grip modifications.

The OneBlade could possibly become my OneRazor, especially with the GEM SS PTFE blades.

Not much to share other than I think I will be using a new blade next time. I think this was the 5th shave on the FHS blade. Not a bad run of shaves with this one though as I modified my approach to my passes and their direction.

I'm excited to see more people experimenting and sharing their results. My experiences are just that, mine. While I think there are some things that will hold true across the board there are still variables unaccounted for that only personal trial and error can step in to fill the gaps.

While others in the shaving realm seem quite happy in their self-imposed box (close-minded), I am encouraged by the forward thinking few paving the way for others while simultaneously experiencing better shaves as a result of their initial risks.

Brian, while I agree that it would be interesting to get other views on the OneBlade, I wonder how many actually own and use the razor on a regular basis to be able to put down their thoughts as succinctly as you have in your OneBlade Journal.

It would be great to hear other opinions about the razor but your journal has been a wonderful source even though it is only as it affects your skin/beard type and your particular technique.

I own the OneBlade, but I don't use it everyday. The times I use it I am very please with it. I use the Feather blades and I only use them twice, I tried a third time, but didn't feel good.

Sharp's journal is very comprehensive and anything less would be uncivilized :-)

This is a great razor and highly recommended based on my own experience.

Thanks again for this wonderful journal. I wrote a few weeks ago to ask how to de-spine a gem blade and you and another user replied quickly and very nicely.

I decided to try and received the ptfe coated blades today. I successfully de-spined 25, in less than 2 minutes (keeping the protective paper around the blade) and was surprised how smooth and easy it was.

I inserted the blade in the OneBlade razor, and if well centered (I think the Gem must be a fraction of a mm shorter),the edge of the blade sits safely on the little pegs at the bottom of the razor head.

Can't wait to try it tomorrow morning. So I just wanted to tell you that I was grateful for your journal. You got me inspired.

And now, between the OneBlade for every day and the Mongoose (especially for 2+ days of growth) I have absolutely no use for the dozen or so high end DE's and thousands of DE blades that I keep in the closet !!!

Thank you for this excellent journal. I was hoping that oneblade would one day offer just the razor without the extras as I see no value in them..., cowhide box, packaging, stand, inserts..., for less than 150, but then I realized that that would be contrary to their goal.

Your journal, and other reviews, are beginning to convince me that it's worth a shot.

I had a question about the feather FHS blade and I thought I would ask it here.

People say this blades has been around for long, before Oneblade chose to build their razor "around" that blade.

I've also read that they are similar to the valet auto-strop razor blades and could be modified to fit in those.

But : does anybody has an idea for which specific razor was the feather FHS blade made in the first place ?

Hi jmzeitouni, from what I understand the Feather FHS SE blade does not need to be modified to work in a Valet razor. In fact, it is the only blade that works in all Valet models besides NOS Valet blades. I do believe despined GEM's will work in a couple of the Valet models.

As for the Feather SE razor, it has long been discontinued. It is one of the rarest razors in the Western Hemisphere. But you can see pictures and read discussion of it in the following two links:

Unless you are a serious collector of the rarest of razors, you may drive yourself crazy trying to collect one. You would probably do better getting a Valet instead for the shave experience, because the Feather SE was modeled after the Valet.

There also should be no concern that Feather will discontinue the FHS SE blade. They continue to make the blade decades after discontinuing their Valet style razor. Also, the fact that they, just months ago, rebranded and reboxed this blade from the 5 pack to the 10 pack, tells me they're in it for the long haul.

I suspect that the FHS and FAS blades are sold more for medical and laboratory usage than shaving. So, as long as medicine and labs aren't going anywhere, neither are these blades.

Plus, in modern machining, it is very easy to re-calibrate machines to cut or mold any type of blade that you have specs for. So as long as Feather continues to make blades of any type, it doesn't cost them anything to re-calibrate their machines into the type of blade that are low in stock. The only way I'd be concerned about not getting these blades is if Feather as a company went out of business. In which case, I would de-spine a GEM PTFE SE. But there is no reason for anyone to worry that traditional length single edge blades, that do or can be made to fit the OneBlade, will ever stop being made.
