From what I have read elsewhere, it seems to be getting overall positive reviews with some folks finding quirks they don't like.  (And what razor, vintage or new, doesn't have a few of those?  Rolleyes )

Like Andrew, I have to give Phil a lot of credit for bringing this to market after years of headaches. I saw the original mockup when Phil was just beginning this project and I don't believe he was anticipating so many hiccups.  He didn't give up, though, and I think that speaks well of the project.

Too expensive turns me off when you have many choices of SE razors these days that are much cheaper. Anything made in California is overpriced just like their housing market.

Well, I had another shave with the Asylum Rx this morning with a fresh Feather Artist Club Pro blade. My first few shaves with it felt a bit more aggressive than I thought it should: Even though there was no irritation, the feel was not as smooth as what I would have expected.

So I did something counter intuitive: I steepened the blade angle (handle more perpendicular to the floor, more parallel to the face), which should have increased the aggression, but the feel of the razor was much smoother, and the shave was outstanding.

Also, I found that opening the razor after the shave and hitting it with a strong stream of water from the tap dislodged the blade so that it came out easily.

I'm very pleased, because my first few shaves were good, not great, and I thought, oh well, live and learn. But today, with a steeper angle, the shave was outstanding, easily on a par with my Cobras, Mongoose, and ATT SE1.

I hear where you are coming from, but I don't hear a lot of people complaining about how overpriced the Mongoose SS is, and there is quite a bit more machining on the RX. It's an "eye of the beholder" thing.

I really doubt I will ever buy one of these, but if he came out with an injector with the same basic design, I would probably bite at it, even at that price.

Ejecting the blade...?

You do this is a 3 piece razor right.

No ejecting needed.

That's like saying good luck ejecting the blade on your DE.

Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Unscrew head.

Separate.

Take out blade.

Very simple.

Sorry for any confusion. Michael among others was having trouble getting the blade out. It sounds unintentionally more complicated than your very simple recipe would suggest.  (Michael I know he's not commenting on your dexterity here Wink )

"You do this is a 3 piece razor right?"  I'm assuming you meant to ask if I was aware this is a three piece razor.  Actually I have no idea.  And I won't. I'm glad others are so enthusiastic about it.

I am more curious as to why you are expending so much effort trolling this razor? What happened, all the One Blade threads get boring?

Did your trolling line get crossed with my post? (Does the OneBlade get you hot too?). Seriously I've not ever made a post about the OneBlade. I don't own one but I like it's aesthetics.
I was asked a question and I answered it. Wink

Yes, that's exactly why I posed the question: It did seem like a brain-dead simple procedure. Yet, even after taking the razor apart as I would with any other three-piece razor, and as Skinny Rogers suggests, I was finding that the blade was sticking to the bottom of the head so tenaciously that I had to use a tongue depressor/toothpick/fingernail (not recommended) to dislodge it.

As I think about it, that says a lot about how stable the blade must stay during the shave Smile I almost lost a blade down the sink drain when the razor was disassembled and I was prying the blade out. (So maybe my dexterity is questionable Smile ) Haven't had this with the Mongoose, Cobras, or ATT. BUT, it's all good now, a vigorous rinse seems to do the trick.

And as I said, the shave this morning was outstanding with the steeper angle.
