Schick injector

I have an old Schick injector that I have only used once.  When I used it I had more weepers than when I first used a DE.  Any tips to make this a better experience in the future?

I think more information would be helpful, as there are many varieties of Schick injectors and condition can be a significant factor in the quality of the shave.  A few pictures might be useful.

I just recently purchased a Schick Type L injector (mid- 1960s era) from another forum member. That was one of the first razors I used when i started shaving 55 years ago. My original was lost years ago. It did take me a few shaves to get used to shaving with the injector after using straight razors and DE razors, but I now get nice shaves using the Chinese Schick injector blades. These blades are VERY SHARP,. so if your technique is off, they can certainly cut you.

Unlike DE razors, injectors work best when the head of the razor is nearly flat against your face. As with any razor, use minmal pressure and stretch your skin tight..

I do agree with elbee that pictures of the razor might be useful in case their are some mechanical issues. My Type L was NOS, so it was in perfect condition.

Quit using pressure.

First off which particular Schick injector is it? Some are notoriously aggressive others vice versa. Second is the blade loaded correctly? If the edge is sitting on the blade stops on the guard it is wrong and the razor can easily cut you when that happens. Blade edge should be sitting behind the blade stops. Third is technique are you trying to use it like a DE razor? You are supposed to use them with guard almost flat to the face and don't mash them into your face and/or press too hard into the skin to cut closer. Use light pressure and more passes doing a gradual reduction on each pass. You can also try skin stretching regardless of technique which may help with the weepers, just stretch the skin in the opposite direction you are shaving.

Finally if all that is good and your prep is okay try a less sharp blade depending what you are using. If you are using the Chinese Schicks sometimes called Chicks then try Personna blades instead which are not as sharp.

I bought Schick blades (yellow package) at my local pharmacy.  I watched several vids about loading and angle, but in the end it just didn’t feel as good as shaving with my DE razors. Everyone says that it is supposed to be like shaving on autopilot, but I didn’t get that impression.

I hardly used any pressure at all when I used it.  I just let it glide on my skin.

Try Personna blades instead. Schick blades are very sharp and harsh for the first 2 or 3 shaves before they break in. Personnas though not as sharp are much smoother blades on the face. The feel issue is most likely the blade and the fact you may not be used to using stiffer blades like an injector. What feels harsh if not due to the blade sharpness you'll acclimate to over time just like the way DE blades feel when first using them coming over from carts.

The Schick blades in the yellow package are made in China. They are VERY SHARP, think Feather blade sharp. While they are prefect for my tough beard in a Type L razor, they may be too sharp for you in your Type G. The Personna blades are made be AccuTech in the USA. AccuTech also makes Personna Lab Blue blades and GEM blades. One possible issue, however, is that the injector dispenser used by AccuTech is not as robust as the metal dispenser used by Schick. Also be careful purchasing Personna Blades as some of them are designed for use in a barber razor and do not come with the key that allows you to insert them into the Schick injector. Some people load the Personna blades by hand into a Schick metal dispenser so they can be more easily loaded into the injector razor.

I love my Schick blades in my G injector. The G is a more aggressive injector. Perhaps try an E or other milder model.
