Another artisan soap made in USA which have pleasantly surprised me.

It's not my intention to hype or shill any shaving soap or artisan brand in particular : I think we had enough of that on the past. But I feel we are living on the mature age of the Made in USA artisan soaps , specially the brands that came out 2 or 3 years ago and have been pursuing the excellence in their shaving soaps. This would be another topic of discussion , but , with all honesty , I have made peace with the artisan shaving soaps made in USA.

This is the case , along many others (CRSW , Wholly Kaw , WSP etc comes to mind of the latest ones I have been shaving with) , of Sapone di Paolo.A very Italian name for a great veggie based shaving soap.

This soap also has a great , elegant , presentation , with the new brand style and on a plastic jar with 4 oz of shaving soap inside.

The soap is veggie based but not vegan , since contains lanolin , with also Shea Butter , Aloe Vera , Mango Butter , Silk Protein etc

Don't want to repeat myself a lot , but my dry skin appreciates all those ingredients when shaving because they truly offer a great skin care.

Making lather with this soap couldn't be easier.Using the L'Occcitane Plisson synthetic brush :

And the lather I obtain after a minute building it on the palm of my hand :

The lather is really creamy.I would say , very , very creamy and while being thick is also slick. It leaves a layer of "oil" over my skin , which I have noticed it in the last 3 shaves with it , and leaves it nourished it.This type of lather reminds me of the one that some folks get from the MWF shaving soap.

My skin , as I previously said , appreciated this extra protection during the shave.

And it's scent is another point in favor : the combination of Lime and Basil notes creates a fragrance both fresh and herbal , with some bitter notes mixed with sweet ones.Gosh , is hard to describe it , but I would tell you that it took me back to Italy , walking around some places by the city of Positano.
The scent is noticeable as soon as you open de lid but is not overpowering at all. Also last during the whole shave.
Takes you by surprise the combination of both Lime and Basil items , but I would tell you that this soap is going to be with me for this coming Spring and Summer , since this scent is more suited for that kind of weather.

This is a great shaving soap with a nice scent.Another well made artisan shaving soap.Well done Sapone di Paolo !

Thanks for the review - I just started using a Sapone Di Paolo Cremoso soap that I bought over a year ago I think. Its really nice both performance and scent wise - I don't think its still in his line up but its vanilla and coconut scent, very creamy too. I noticed that Sapone Di Paolo has reformulated since I acquired this soap so I'm curious how the new formula compares to the old. I might have to buy a tub of the new.

Does any DFS member have experience with both the old and new Sapone Di Paolo formulas who'd be willing to comment on the comparison?

I do dig Paolo's tubs and labeling and his soap scents are pretty straight forward, which is what I prefer. I'll have to add them to the 'to try' list soon.

Paolo makes one of the best soaps I have tried, especially, for a veggie soap and his scents are very nice.

Great soap. "Bosco" is still my favorite of his scents. I've only tried v1 so far & am a bit worried about the lanolin in v2 (I'm not sure my skin likes lanolin)...

My experience with v1 versus v2 is still so limited, that it’s difficult to draw any conclusions. At this stage, I can say that both versions easily produce a very nice lather, but v2 may feel ever so slightly “richer,” if that makes sense.

What I can confidently state is that some of the new scents are outstanding. I met with a couple of fellow members of the forum a couple of weeks ago, and took my jar of Pulito with me, so that they could get a sense of the scent. They were very impressed with the clean, classy scent of that soap, just as I was when I received it.

The other new scent I have is Terroso. Straight out of the jar, the scent was pleasing, but then when I actually used it … well, let’s just say I’m hooked!
