RR Wunderbar or ATT S1 Slant?

Just when I thought I was narrowing things down, another contender pops up! lol

The Muhle sounds seems beastly in its aggression level.  This is not a bad thing; it just means better technique on my part.  I do have a dumb question though.  It appears that the Muhle and the ATT S2 (mentioned by Forged) are open combs.  I've always been under the impression that these were for longer, thicker growth (e.g shaving a beard off), because the open comb allowed the hair to flow through the head of the razor versus being pushed under a bar (closed comb).  I hope that made sense.  I shave my head every other day, so they're relatively short, yet course, whiskers (are they still considered whiskers on your head?).  Does an OC work better just in general, or should I stick with an CC?

To me the Muhle is sort of a hybrid OC. More like a combination of OC/SB. It is worth noting that before WWII all DEs were OC. If I'm not badly mistaken Gillette's post war Aristocrat was the first safety bar razor, and it was shortly thereafter that Gillette stopped producing open combs. 

I cannot prove it, but I think the safety bar was developed as much for ease of manufacturing as it was for shave characteristics. Also it was a bit less subject to accidental damage if dropped. How many vintage OCs do we run across with a bent tooth on the edge. 

Here's the Muhle SS R-41 head above the ATT S2. I think you'll see what I mean about it being a combination of the two characteristics. 

Another vote for the Wunderbar. It has some blade feel but you have a lot of room to modulate it via shave angle which allows for a smooth shave.

I'm not sure that's totally accurate Jimmy. Did not the pre and post war Techs both come in straight bar. And if you get outside of Gillette there are several others I believe that were double-edged razors that were straight bars before the war.

Both the S1 and Wunderbar are great razors... however, the Wunderbar was the clear winner for me.

One of the best modern razors being made IMO.

I finally got up enough ambition to look it up in my copy of Krumholz's Gillette Collector's Handbook. So the 3 piece tech was about first with the bar guard, or maybe simultaneously with the TTO (one piece) Milord. Below is a  no notch Ranger Tech maybe a 1941, a mint 1948 or later Milord, since it has the notched blade positioning bar, and far right what I think is a mint 1940 Milord without the notch in the positioning bar. 

The ATT S1 is in my top 3 razors of all time for me, and I've owned well over 100 of them from vintage to modern.

I've only tried the Wunderbar, so my recommendation would be for that. Not as fair though not having tried the ATT S1 against it.
