I would characterize it as mild. I found it roughly equivalent to about the 2 setting on a Rex Ambassador. It performed decent but nothing like more aggressive and efficient shavers for me so it got shelved. Unless your budget doesn't allow for it I'd just get a Rex Ambassador instead even if mild is your thing since if you stick to one razor as your shave tastes change the razor can be adjusted to suite them.
The only way I would say stepping up to a Rex Ambassador or any adjustable is not a good option is if you'd only use it on the most aggressive setting. If that was the case might as well buy a non adjustable since there is no potential for the razor to grow with you as you progress on your shave journey.

Many say it was the same as the Ambassador on 3. I used the Ambassador in the pass around here and found it rough and no comparison to the Envoy. I used the Envoy on the pass here and found it smooth and fairly mild and pretty efficient. I've seen them on sale for @$75 here on the BST and missed them but would be tempted at that price although I don't need one. I think it's a good razor but rate the Yates and 95 SB Lupo higher. That's just my opinion on it.

People who favor a more rigid design would likely prefer that razor, but I don't think there is anything in the build or geometry of the Envoy that would suggest it delivers a harsh shave for someone who knows what they're doing.
