Shave 2 and it was......

Excellent, excellent shave today. The REX truly shined this morning with a new blade yielding a BBS finish in 2 passes + a chin buff. A smooth and effortless shave that left me ready for a special occasion, my youngest daughter and her graduation into middle school. That’s where the YSL steps in, a true masterpiece if you can find the original formulation. Just an awesome performer especially for that special occasion. Have a great day and shaves Gents....

Thanks partner. I remember holding her in the delivery room like it was yesterday. And now moving on as a 6th grader. I have my older daughter graduating from High School on Friday. I’m about to have a nervous break-down..... Where has the time gone? Tears today, tears on Friday again......

I have extremely sensitive legs (I shave with a 1 setting on a super adjustable) and have tried a wolfman and progress and more or less expected the rex to also cut me up and leave me with weepers everywhere. This was not the case. It was super gentle and great shave, although the rough knurling hurts my hands a little.

I did notice that it felt my post-shave slickness was reduced, making buffing much harder. I know buffing isn’t really considered a best practice anyways, but I’m not sure what is causing this.

Did a 2-pass WTG and ATG on setting 6.5 with light touch ups that I missed.  Today was BBS with no irritation.  This razor gets better and better on each use.  I'm done looking for that next razor.

Other than a couple of British Aristocrats I'm with you.

Probably more for the collectability than the quality of shave I presume?

Nope, I refuse to buy what I won't use. I don't care if they are user grade. My #66 is near mint, but I still use it. I've heard the #16 shaves a little different (Can't see how they would they are the same head as far as I can tell). I just love the knurling on the handles along with the rhodium plating. Even if the plating isn't perfect.

Congratulations Dad!  It doesn't get any better than this.  

Does anyone use a "inkwell" stand?  All of my stands don't work with this razor... the neck is to large for the regular stands and the bottom will not fit my current inkwell stand.

i use deep-well sockets as razor stands. 19mm hold most, i keep a 22mm for some weird things. i cut a finger off of a nitrile glove and use it as a liner for the socket. between 5 and 7 dollars at the big hardware stores.

I've noticed that it doesn't leave much slickness behind. If I want to do a little touchup, I just reuse some of the lather from the baseplate or scoop up a bit of leftover lather from around my ears or collarbone or whatever, often with a little water to thin it, or just add a dollop from the brush.

So, since I started this thread, I guess I could comment. I just won't repeat what a bunch of others have already said. In addition to my involvement with Black Tie Razor Company, I own a jewelry store. I am very familiar with metal finishes and polishing.
The fit and finish is great. I understand why it is brushed and not high polished on the cap, but it would be an easy high polish for me to do. Still thinking on it.
Every day since Sunday (1st Rex shave) has gotten better. I finally dialed into what might be the perfect setting(s) and blade combo. Astra seemed to work best so far for me. I've found vintage Gillette adjustables to be lacking in performance for me. Since I'm a daily head and face shaver, I looked forward to a great adjustable that I could simply twist the collar on to go from head to face.
The weight is similar to my Rockwell/BTRC handle combo that I've used most lately and the knurling is deep like our handle is so I appreciate that.
The inevitable comparison will be made to the Rockwell Model T and quite frankly, if they do try to sell it at $199 with the Rex at $249, it's going to be a tough row to hoe.
The Rex is my only $100+ razor and will remain so. Up until now, my 6S that I paid $80 (that's how long I've had it, original retail price) for was my most expensive razor. Between that and the closed comb razor we sell ourselves in my rotation, only a razor that could be adjusted in mid-shave would even garner my attention or dollars.
I needed something VERY special to get me to spend this much. The Rex was it and it is highly unlikely that someone can or will come up with something "better" for me.
