IMHO, just the q/p ratio is different in my experience.
As other great soaps (in EU we have a lot!!), the price is a productive investment ... more than a cost.

With a good synthetic (but also a thin natural fiber), the yield increases drastically.
This leads to a much lower real cost.
In reality, slightly higher than a supermarket product.
In a year of continuous use, the difference is the price of a good pizza.
