Company: Dr. Jon Shaving Soap
Product: Savannah Sunrise
For anyone who’s had the pleasure of using Dr. Jon’s Shaving Soap you already know how great they all are but for someone who never tired them before please read on.
Since I tried only one of Dr. Jon’s shaving soap, which was a great tobacco scent by the way I wanted to try more. So I talked to Jon and had a sampler created for me, which included all but one of his 2oz shaving soap. (The one missing was not released yet) Once I received the parcel I just picked one from the box. “SAVANNAH SUNRISE” The first thing that grabs your attention is the amazing packaging. I’m talking about how the label design captures the description of the scent. They narrate the story of the product. I think it’s a nice touch to see the scent description on the perimeter of each and every label. On a side note I’m starting to like the tins with the screw on tops better, hoping they become standard issue soon with all artisans. The plastic stretch bands are getter old fast.
The scent on Savannah Sunrise is like a burst of fresh peach, orange and Honeysuckle. The scent strength is about a 4 - 5 when lathering. The nice thing about the scent is its staying power it lasts for several hours. This is a summertime shaving soap if there ever was one but for me I’ll use it all year round. Let me give you the full listing of notes Peach, Orange Blossom, Honeysuckle, Jasmine and Gardenia.
When loading the brush for lathering I wet the brush and use a light swirling method for this soap. You can’t press your brush hard nor swirl it like your loading a hard soap you might scoop all the soap out of the tin. Maybe Jon didn’t want to label his soaps as creams but I must say they are very cream like in texture. This is by no means a hard soap and to call them soft soaps I just don’t see it. So it shouldn’t take more then a few seconds to get your brush loaded.
The lather produced was rich and creamy with an extra burst from the scent at this time. During the shave you get the slickness and glide I think will all look for even if you’re a straight razor user this might be a good choice for you as well. The nice thing about this soap is the great post shave feeling. It really does make your face feel very soft and smooth and the scent goes on for hours.
So a great soap wonderful shave. I will be reviewing the others from the box from time to time and refer you to this review for any repeat information I might have.
