"Return With Me/Us To Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear..."

And no, it's not the Great Horse Silver and The Lone Ranger. It's the wet shaving I used to do in my late teens through my middle 20's when my tools were the Gillettes that are today's vintage razors. The period "BER" (before electric razors) took over my shaving life for the next 50+ years.

Then, Noxzema Skin Cream was a staple to be applied after my face wash, but before the application of lather, a procedure learned from my dad, therefore unquestioned by me. Fast forward to last Sunday in our local Wally World when I saw, in stock, Equate Deep Cleansing Skin Cream. This is the clone of Noxzema with the good stuff, e.g. menthol, phenol and camphor that Noxzema has seen fit to remove from their product. So, home I came with my 12 oz. tub of the product.

This morning, I revisited that long ago procedure using the same hardware and soap that I last used except that the Astra Superior Stainless blade had 2 instead of 1 shave already on it. Bottom line=Great shave! Did my normal 2 passes (WTG, XTG w/minor buffing) and added a + to my expected DFS result. Granted, a DFS+ v. DFS isn't that big a deal, but it is noticeable and very pleasant, not to mention the nostalgia which was heady! I've been faceturbating all morning and suspect I will continue for the rest of the day.

I have used Noxema as a pre-shave. To me, it's a less expensive version of Proraso green pre/post shave and does a fine job when I am in the mood for a menthol shave.

I use Noxema to wash my face before shaving , and have been for many years. I really like the feeling and even the little slickness from it.

Sounds great beamon. I've been curious about trying this. I'll be sure to pick some up the next time I find myself at Wally World.

This shave, oldie, and the two previously with the same blade, was with a NEW Long Comb.

At this time, I've pretty well filled out the vintage razors that I want. They are: NEW SC and LC, TECH triangular slot, SLIM adjustable, and waiting on a Fatboy F2 to arrive. Next will come the big money purchases. ATT, Wolfman and AS-D2 will about empty my wallet!

Hi Vilhauer. What I did half a century ago and continue to do with the Equate clone is to rinse first, then take a dab of the Equate/Noxzema product about the size of 2 nickels pressed together and rub it into my wet beard with my fingers. That amount pretty much disappears into the face and beard. Then apply the lather directly without rinsing off the Equate/Noxzema. What comes off with the lather when you run the razor is free rinsing and will not clog your razor. HTH.
