Just buy a cheap used Schick J Model that is mild and soak it in 70% (per the CDC) rubbing alcohol for 15 mins. after washing with dish soap & hot water. The J Model is very forgiving and a great "learner" injector as well as cheap on Ebay. Baby steps. How does one argue with a man who has a schick injector blade as his profile pic
Please be so kind to share how the chicks fare compare to the Ted Pella injector blades which are a real bargain - though never tried them. I get my chicks off ebay mostly - any cheaper place to buy in bulk ?

Another vote for the Supply. For $99 you can get it with the two extra plates (mild and aggressive). Start with the mild or medium plate, and go from there. With due and genuine respect for BPman (who knows far more than I do about Schick format related things), the Supply was my first “Schick experience”, and it was like falling off a log for me. It sold me on the Schick/injector format.
One thing: I would not use the blades that come with the Supply, at least not to start. Buy the Schick blades in the yellow and orange packages. They used to be made in China, although I am not sure if that is still the case.

Hard to believe the field has kinda opened up for injector razors but it has. The type O from ebarbershop as recommended by a member are excellent razors. Legend has it, it’s a perfect copy of the schick O and shave equally well. I have one and I love it.
The supply V2 is well worth the price, and Patrick (and family) great to do business with. The Mingoose is excellent (and out of stock), and to round out the collection, the Adjustables are smooth comfortable shavers. I got a minty one for $31 off eBay, but it seems the price has flexed up for some reason... NOS for $99 is fine(I guess) but a used one for $99?? Wait that one out.
I have absolutely zero experience with the vintage injectors but there are lots of members on this board who do.

The Chick blades are smoother than the Ted Pella (modern Personna) in most razors IMO.
FWIW, I don't think it's right to recommend a $99 injector type razor to a neophyte who has never used an injector razor before anymore so than I would a Wolfman to someone who had never shaved with a DE before. They need to discover first if they even like the format and that's best done on a far cheaper level lest they be left with a bad taste in their mouth after a bad experience and saddled with eqpmt. they are going to take a "bath" on if they want to unload it. You wouldn't buy your 16 yr. old a Ferrari as their first car.
Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.” “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

You have a good point and I understand what you are saying. I just don't think it is the only reasonable viewpoint, and I think there are reasonable criticism's of the Ferrari analogy.
The Supply is not more dangerous than a vintage razor, whereas a Ferrari can be more dangerous than most cars. But there is no reason to think the OP will shave less responsibly or hurt himself more with a Supply than with a type J (as a 16 year old might do with a Ferrari). The Supply is, if anything, less dangerous; it may not be less dangerous than a good vintage copy, but it might be less dangerous than whatever copy arrives from eBay. The Supply price tag, $99 w extra plates, is just not that steep for many people, and the OP did specify "it has to be new", suggesting a willingness to pay. OTOH, a Ferrari is crushingly expensive for most of us.
Nevertheless, being responsible with money is commendable, and I am not trying to brush that aside. I would have more easily related to the analogy of not buying a child a professional grade musical instrument as their first instrument. But even there, the OP is not a child, this is a hobby, and we are talking about a much smaller sum. -- Peace.

Well, there lies the rub...do I invest less so if I don’t like it, I’m not out a lot or do I go big and possibly be out money if I don’t like it? This goes for guitars, razors, or anything else with a start-up cost and learning curb.
I can only speak from my experience, my first injector was a supply (still loving it), and my first guitar was a Gibson LP Standard (I prefer my Fender 52 reissue) so it can be a hit or miss.
It is a good point, and well stated.

If you just want to give injectors a try before you jump in ... go for the adjustable schick injector, mine was in almost mint condition for 25ish on eBay.

It is nice to see good reports for the Mingoose. FYI, as I write this, Maggard now has 124 unblemished Mingooses in stock. Maggard had some blemished, discounted Mingooses, but they are currently out of stock.
This may be too much to ask, but could Burton or Hardtop01 please elaborate on what you like about the Mingoose? Also, how would you compare it to the Supply in terms of aggressiveness? I have to chuckle, because BPman and I are in the middle of a conversation about spending $99 on a Supply, and despite my best efforts, I have not been able to convince myself that the Mingoose is worth $165 (to me). Your input might help. -- Thanks.

Huge thread drift re the Mongoose.
My best suggestion is for the OP to get a nice vintage Schick injector and blades for no more than $20 tops to see first if he even likes an injector. No razor is for every man.
