I also have both baseplates and it remains the smoothness razor in my den with the Paradigm Diamondback 2020 high polished coming in 2nd in smoothness but more efficient than the RS 10 with the aggressive baseplate on it.
With that said if your not getting enough efficiency out of it you might try using some skin stretching and taking shorter strokes. find I can get a closer shave in less passes when using this technique and when I want a super long lasting BBS I get even more aggressive with the skin stretching.

If your not familiar with using it I’d suggest watching sone straight razor YouTube videos as the technique is very similar. but the DE offers more maneuverability than a straight. It takes a little practice for it to become natural but once mastered you’ll get closer shaves and not need as many passes. Also your chances of getting nicks or irritation go way down as your always shaving on a smooth landscape.
I also like a Feather in the RS 10

Hope that helps.

Confused2 I quite don't follow the reasoning behind that.
To use a tree-felling analogy, you don't try to cut tall trees closer to the ground just because they're taller.
I could see using a more aggressive razor if you're planning to skip the next day, or using an open-comb razor for much longer growth than usual.

The aggressive plate is too much for my skin as a daily driver after 4-5 days, nothing to do with the closeness of the shave as both give me BBS results. The larger gap and slight increase in blade exposure help with longer hairs..Nothing to do with the trees but more the ground underneath using your analogy.
