Charcoal Goods brass lvl 3 gen 1 vs Wolfman WR1 .86

No pic for this one but I’ll try to remember to take one tomorrow. Both loaded with treet platinum but couldn’t remember how many shaves with both blades so tomorrow I’ll try fresh ones in both. SB sides for the shave on both razors. Grooming dept aion soap, preshave, and post shave gel were all used. The serum I found to leave my face a bit too oily but the gel absorbs very quickly and leaves my face baby soft. Standard 3 pass shave.

I want to say that the charcoal goods lvl 3 ended up being the smoother shave but had more blade feel, or feedback (sound) at least. Could also be that I know my lvl 3 pretty well and I’m still getting to know the .86. 14 hrs after the shave and the lvl 3 side has less facial hair than the .86’s side of the face.

Do some of you out there prefer less blade rigidity? Can’t say for certain yet but almost seems like I get better shaves on my coarse beard with razors that don’t hold the blade as rigid (rigid=blade clamped as close to the cutting edge as possible by the top cap/base plate from my understanding). Possibly the  way I shave or my facial hair somehow benefits from a little flex in the blade being clamped further back. Somehow seems more forgiving for me. Happy shaves y’all!

Whisker_whacker I prefer the more ridgid blade clamping, but would have to vote for the CG lvl3 above the .86 WR1 for myself also.

Edit: I've used the lvl3 CG much more too though.

I certainly fall under the less blade rigidity category. Or maybe, as Elvis Outlander puts it, the “dampening” razor style vs the rigid razor style.

Yates, Henson, Blackbird, RS-10, etc etc seem to work better for my situation than more rigid razors like the karve.

Charcoal Goods lvl 3 vs Wolfman WR1 .86

Managed to snag a pic this time. Today’s shave used the razors mentioned above, 2 new vintage polsilver blades, cutting edge - evergreen and cedar soap (which is fantastic by the way), and my Paladin buck Rogers brush in Neptune.

I swapped sides of the face today to see if that changed anything. Sitting here 14 hours after the shave Id say both sides are about the same.

During the shave I came to a sort of realization. I enjoyed using the charcoal goods more than the Wolfman. The analogy that came to mind was a speed bump and how the Wolfman felt like driving a bulldozer. If going slow enough it would plow through the speed bump and be a bit shaky. The charcoal goods equates to a pickup truck going over the speed bump which was more manageable. So with the Wolf I had to be very slow otherwise it tugged a bit when hoping thru my coarse stubble. With the charcoal goods lvl 3 it was a bit smoother when skipping over the stubble. I may have taken a few more strokes with the lvl 3 but it was both more fun and less risky feeling when shaving with it. I also find SS razors to be my least favorite metal when compared to brass, copper, or titanium.

This could be totally different for some of you due to how thick your beard hair is. So far for me, I’m thinking I like less rigid designs. I’ll be running the .80 up next to see what it’s got and might list the .86 for trade to see what a .74 is all about.

Nice comparison Whisker_whacker. I definately find myself to prefer less blade rigidity. I get much more comfortable shaves from the mentioned razors by AQU. Anything with crazy blade clamping seems more likely to give me weepers and irritation. Also, I do experience more tugging with extended growth on the ridgid designs.
