Question on Karve plates

If you look at Alan's gap chart, the D plate at .98mm is very close to the Timeless at .95mm. You also have to remember that the Karve D plate has .13mm blade exposure where the Timeless SB has neutral (0) blade exposure and the Timeless OC .95mm gap I think is only .05mm blade exposure. If you go to the Karve E plate with a gap of 1.10mm, the blade exposure jumps to .17mm.

I have the Karve brass plates B-E in both SB & OC. I also have the Timeless SS .95mm SB & OC along with the Ti in .95mm OC. In my experience the Karve SB in C or D would be the way to go leaning toward the D. I think the E plate will feel much more aggressive than the Timeless .95mm SB.

I think the exposure on the Karve is misleading. There is almost 0 blade feel with the D plate. It is much more mild than a Timeless 95, in my experience.

I disagree with this. I find my Timeless Ti .95SB to be much smoother than the Karve D plate. To me, it feels closer to the Karve C plate in terms of comfort (smoothness), although the Timeless .95 is much more efficient than the Karve C.

The more you guys compare the Karve to the Timeless the more I learn. I compare all razors to Timeless and this info you all are giving helps a lot.

EDIT: I wonder if I do want a Karve at this point, given all of the issues they seem to have. After getting a Yates and now a Timeless .68 Titanium, I'm not so sure I still have the desire for one.

One thing about the Karve that makes me want one is how smooth everyone says they are.

I think the wording of my statement was confusing. What I meant is that the Karve D plate has less blade feel and is less efficient than the Timeless 95. I also find the Timeless to be smoother. I was not a big fan of the Karve. I liked the look and feel of it, but for some reason, it just didn’t enjoy shaving with it. I think it’s because it holds the blade a little flatter than I prefer.
