The new prices of a Plisson I really can't get behind, especially for the modern day stuff. Now if you could get the vintage stuff at today's prices, I could get behind it more so. I have a 20 alongside an 18 and I do like them, but you can get better value deals elsewhere. You could get a 35mm Shavemac monster cheaper than one 20 from Plisson. Heck probably 2.
The strength of the Plisson is the higher loft. That combined with the bulb shape it really helps in whipping lather up. More length in the hair always promotes lather generation. Couple that with a decreased density. Both of what I have are 2 band, but I had a vintage 3-band that held up just as well in terms of density, but not talking Rooney 3-band Heritage Density here, or Finest even for that matter. That can actually be a good thing as they were so dense they cause lather generation to suffer. More product compensates for that, yada yada. As long as you like the brush that's all that matters.
Not sure where you are but I would check out Atkinson's first. I believe they might have some older models left behind, and a coupon code to boot. They're based in Canada. If you are really into brushes, trying a Plisson brush I would probably say is a requirement, but I would strongly advise to try and find a used deal. At the used prices I'm happy with what I bought. New prices I don't think I would have been.
