The Müler & Schmidt Pfeilringwerk GmbH & Co KG still exists in Solingen. These days they produce mainly nailclippers, cutlery and Mach3-handles. Also, they are known for their Golddachs shavingsoap.

They still produce luxury-kits, but these used to be a lot more interesting: they used to be available wit a slant razor. This set came to me in its original outer packaging, with some damage in the seams, which you don't see that often. Apparently this is model 8900, and the label further states that the case is green.

This green case is made of leather, and opens to a pair of nailscissors, two nailfiles, a bladeholder with Pfeilring DE-blades, a bulletshaped stypticpencil container and the slant razor. All parts except the handle and the baseplate have the Pfeilring-logo. Somebody somewhere in time made a mistake: the nailfiles are identical. They, and the scissors, have some corrosion.

The scissors and the files rest within the lid, making removal awkward. To remedy this they are stored in a separate leather pouch, which pivots over its bottom, so you can lift them from the lid before taking them out. A sign of smart thinking.

The razor itself looks familiar to me: it is a near copy of the Solingen differential slanthead, with a different handle. And with the Pfeilring-logo in the topcap offcourse. The handle is decorated very nice, and is a bit thicker and heavier than the handle found with the generic variant of this model razor, as found under the Lutz, Romi, Oska and then some brandnames. The baseplate is a bit thinner but not a bit less solid. The razor has a bit of a yellowish haze in some light, I expect that to mean there is nickel in there somewhere.
The shave with this razor is excellent. The changed balance as compared to the standard variant is not detrimental to handling. The two sides of the head have very different aggression: the side with the more coarsely scalloped safetybar will mow ATG through several days of growth with no problems, but can feel a bit harsh when doing that. WTG there's not even that. Pass two and three (the latter only to finish the lather since it is not really necessary) with the other side and BBS is a given. Too bad iKon muted down the aggressive side on their take on this razor so much, since it really adds to the enjoyment of this razor.

The razor cleans deep, which is actually the only disadvantage I can find: I can't use it as a daily driver since after two consecutive shaves, my skin needs a bit of a rest. Either that, or not use the aggressive side but that would be a pity.
