Although both blades are produced under the Personna brand, the "Med Preps" are produced by Accutec Blades in Verona, VA, the only blade producer remaining in the USA.
The Persona Platinum Chrome blades are now produced in Solingen, Germany in the same facility that produces the Wilkinson Sword Classic blades. These blades were formerly produced in Israel and were known fondly as Israel Reds. I have tried a few of the German blades and consider them to be essentially identical to the Israeli blades, but other seem to think the Israeli blades were better.

Although I have tried the Persona Comfort Coated "Lab Blues" made by Accutec, I have not tried the Med Preps. I find that the PTFE coating on the Lab Blues is too thick for a comfortable first shave. Once the coating wears off I find they are similar in performance to the the Platinum Chrome. Thus, I prefer the Platinum Chromes. They are among my favorite blades. I am not certain how the Med Preps differ from the Lab Blues.

Personna announced closure of the Israeli plant in 2018. The plant ceased producing blades in 2019. The final shipment of inventory of the plant shipped in March 2020. Some vendors might have inventory of Israeli blades available at inflated prices. However, most Platinum Chrome blades currently available will be from Germany.

There are some Personna blades today sold in red packaging that resembles the "Israeli Reds", but the blades are sold as stainless blades and not Platinum Chrome. The Israeli plant always labeled the individual blades as Platinum Chrome whether they came in red packaging or the blue UK packaging. Buyer beware!

Hi Keith,

Those are “Israeli Reds” in the 10 pack.  Mostly sold in the UK and EU markets.  Good blade, I like it better than the new German made Personna Platinum Chromes with gold lettering.

The med preps are just sterilized and packaged in a way that allows for the “med prep” designation and high mark up.  Exact same blade, and anyone who says otherwise - I know the company helped with QC.  So I’m certain my info is correct as of 2019 - personna lab blues and med preps, same blade just sterilized and packaged differently.

Seems like I need a good reminder about the Personna blade when I haven't used them in quite a while.

Med and Labs are the same except QC for medical usage
Red and blue/white packs same , gold lettering close to the others, depending on user evaluation, is that ballpark?
nachum hope ya catch this too.

They happen to be one of the most confusing to follow.

But the key - all the stuff in the US Made location is the same.  Med preps and lab blues.

Israeli reds (the 5 pack all red) are now made in Germany.  The ten pack is blue with gold lettering.

The last of the Israeli reds I have found - 10 packs with blue and red packaging, like the ones Keto has posted here before this pic.

Now if you want to really hear a good one, ask about the Russian made Gillettes.  But I’m not typing it up, I am too tired.
