Pairing soap and aftershave scents

Sometimes when I go into a shave, I don't plan what I want to use. Other times I'll think about what products I choose ahead of time. My "rotation" is kinda loose. Today was one of those random days and I stumbled upon a combination that I really enjoyed, but never tried before. RazoRock Mudder Focker soap paired with Fine Fresh Vetiver aftershave. Made for a great shave, IMO.

Aside from the obvious same scented soaps and aftershaves, what are some your favorite combos or ones that surprised you with how well they worked together?

One of my favorites is a Bay Rum with Royall Spyce. Excellent pairing.


- The Clean Shaver

I like pairing Reef Point Soaps Fougere Santal soap with Fine American Blend aftershave. IMO they pair up nicely!

I like Proraso Green with Aqua di Selva. Razo Rock XXX with Capri, then Aqua di Parma (obvious). Sterling Executive Man with Fine Platinum, then Aventus. Proraso Red with The Art of Shaving Sandalwood. Clubguy soap, Clubman aftershave, and Canoe cologne. Le Piment De le vie and Al Fin. Dr. Harris Windsor with Fine L'Orange Nior. Razo Rock American Blend with Brut, Fine American Blend, then Brut cologne or Rive Gauche.

I use Creed Green Irish Tweed, Soap Commander Vision, Stirling Executive Man splash w/menthol, Fine Barbershop splash, and Nivea Sensitive balm. My matching soap/balms are Soap Commander Passion, CRSW Puro Fresco, SV Manna, and Crabtree & Evelyn Moroccan Myrrh. I sometimes use the matching ones for soaps that are not matching, whatever seems to go best is what I use and if I don't have anything close I go with Nivea which seems practically unscented to my nose, but a very light and fresh smell.

I use whatever soap and aftershave or aftershave balm I happen to have on hand at the time. They generally seem to work well, and the scent only lasts about 20 min or so. If I want to smell really nice, I just use Kiss My Face unscented cream and a cologne.

I must be the odd man out here as I never think about pairing of soaps and aftershaves
To me, the scent of the soap is pretty much completely gone when I'm done shaving so the aftershave doesn't really have anything to 'compete' or 'pair' with.
Come to think of it, I don't really think too much about the aftershave scent either - it's a very fleeting thing that lingers for maybe 10 mins.

I'm much more selective when it comes to EdT/EdC that may/should last several hours

I guess it depends on what aftershave you use, for me anyway. I've found that Fine or Clubman aftershaves last all day while something like Stirling only lasts maybe a hour or two. I'm not a cologne guy so whatever AS I use is the scent of the day.

I am with darkbulb in that I don't really consider matching per se but just rotate. I am not a cologne wearer either and to be honest, only in the last few years started using AS vs. witch hazel as I don't care for heavy scents.

I do like Clubman a lot though- reminds me of going to the barbershop as a kid for buzz cuts.
