Ordered one this morning from a link I received from PAA. Gem type razor was only $39.95 and comes with two base plates (regular & beta). Made out of aluminum. It is a 3 piece razor and any handle will work per their email.

Gus I thought about getting one but my first shave with a Aluminum razor was a Guerrilla OC aluminum last week and it felt so light that after one shave I'm selling it. On this one for the price I'm tempted to pick one up but has anyone ever put an aluminum head on a heavier SS or Ti handle and had any luck?

All of the current iKon (shavecraft) heads are aluminum and work well with their stainless steel handles. The only difference is the iKons are fairly heavy. Will know next week if the all aluminum Gem shaves good.

Good point my friend. But, the reason why I pulled the trigger was 2 fold. First, as the OP stated any handle can be used so that should help in balancing and providing a bit more heft to it. Second, it's the potential for us wet shavers to give PAA some input on our experience with it as they will be looking to make design improvements or upgrades to the razor based on users thoughts. Who knows, perhaps they might consider producing one in a heavier alloy down the road.
I've used my EL Jefe and MR SE with a SS handle and they have worked for me pretty well. Although I still believe the Ikon heads are a mix of alloys that makes them feel heavier than just plain aluminum, I just can't prove it to be true. And it's just $40. Took a flyer......

I’ve used an aluminum razor head with a stainless or titanium handle before, and it works well. Just make sure not to overtighten the handle, since aluminum is the softer material, and the threading could be damaged by too much force.
Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I would like to try this razor, but from a cosmetic standpoint, I really don't like the gaudy engraving on the top of the cap. No razor should have anything on the top like that, IMO. What's wrong with putting the identifying info on the underside of the baseplate like most others? I'm sure it could be ignored if I really enjoyed the performance of it though.

I agree the cosmetics are horrid but you can probably polish it up and lose the branding

Not all, the B1 slant head is stainless steel.
