Really sorry to hear that avmech. We have a French bulldog rescue that is 15 years old, completely deaf, only has 4 teeth left, has a "growth" on one paw, some sort of skin ailment, incontinent, old dog bronchitis, and can't stay awake more than 2 hours a day. But every single day when I get home, that old dog gets up off his bed and lumbers his way over to the door so he can greet me and get a big face rub! I know his day is coming up sooner rather than later and it hurts just to think about it.

Thank you gentlemen. She had a growing lump in her lungs and her breathing was very shallow and labored. Vet came to the house, 2 shots administered, she passed after the first. She was ready and very peaceful when she passed. RIP Daisy, till we meet again at the bridge

yes, and think of all the good times, too, even though they can hurt as well.

Our vet sent us a card with this poem excerpted in it. I share it here for all you have lost a furry loved one.

Yesterday was a good day!  My wife and I took a day off and headed to Cincinnati to pick up this little guy...



The rescue operation isn't sure of the breed as mama was a mix and papa is a complete unknown.  But after being woken up hearing howls at 1 am, there might be some hound dog in him .  He did make for a very cozy companion next to my desk at 5 am though

Instant smiles from me. He's as cute as a button.

Howling... A few months ago I started howling just to see if my dogs would. Our female makes very little noise of any sort, mostly whining at the most and that rarely. But the male started to howl and I created a monster. Before going go bed for the night he'll come and take his position and start chuffing at me. He wants to howl but wants me to start it off. Afterward he's ready for bed.
