Hi,

Im wanting to try Soponificio Italian soaps. I need some info on the scents. I dont want a loud overpowering scent, but im looking for a clean/ fresh scent. Ive heard of the manna smelling like Tabac, and also like Oldspice. Ive never tried Tabac, but i dont care for the smell of old spice.

I have Dolomiti and I would describe it as a fresh/clean scent. It is also not overpowering either so it might be right up your alley.

How does the aromatic fern smell?

I'm not sure as I've never sniffed it. Most people who have it seem to love it as far as what I've read on the forums. My understanding is that it is a very robust scent as well.

Aromatic Fern has a robust cologne type of scent, not a very mild scent. Avoid the 70th Anniversary scent also, its nice but not mild.

Felce Aromatica is a fresh, “green” and rather sharp scent. Sometimes there is a perception that European soaps are milder in scent than their New World counterparts. That is not the case with this soap. As Lfs70 stated, the scent is quite strong. I enjoy it. It’s not a winter scent, if you ask me, but I see no reason not to enjoy summery scents even in the winter.

Tundra Artica here. I have both the "balm-splash" and the soap. Despite being relatively potent, the scent is basically an unobtrusive oud with underlying berries, something green and woody. Matches well with any oud cologne IMO. The soap is apparently also a different formula (beta v 4.1).

Top Notes: Oud, cedar, tangerine.
Middle Notes: Cashmeran, Damascan rose, patchouli.
Base Notes: Amber, sandalwood and leather

They're all of a general "high end cologne" vibe. Not mild, generally - but they don't last all day either and on dry down, calm down quite a bit. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, personally. I have 70th, Cosmo and Tundra Artica. Love 'em. The soap performance is about the best there is.

I would highly suggest starting with Felce Aromatica. I have Felce Aromatica and Manna de Sicilia. Of these two, the former is much more of the type you describe than the latter. Manna de Sicilia does remind me a touch of Tabac, sort of floral tobacco. Felce Aromatica is a very nice, cologne type scent. I'm not in love with the performance of SV compared to many of my soaps, but I think Felce Aromatica might be my best SMELLING soap that I own. I will give it that.

I like the Fern but haven't tried the others.

For what it is, the soap is very large and very hard. Not dry. It is the most like old fashioned hard soap pucks. Denser than Tabac. Similar in consistency to MWF.

My puck is in a Grundtal tin from Ikea. It is a perfect fit. After dozens of uses it doesn't seem to have shrunk at all.

This soap is a good value.

One puck will likely last a very long time.
