I see that we don't have a poling function so I want to ask this question:  glycerine.

Do you like glycerine in your aftershave or not?

Or, do you not care one way or the other?

I am leaving balms out of this......I hate balms.

I will refrain from offering my opinion until after some responses are in and we have a feel for where most people are.

I do not.

Speick or Witch Hazel are my go-to after shaves. I don't really know of any non-balms that do....what are some of the more popular ones?

I typically use witch hazel as my aftershave.

I have used aftershaves that contain glycerin along with several other components, but I do not use them routinely.

One time I tried applying pure vegetable glycerin tp my face. Glycerine is hygroscopic and pulls water from the underlying tissue as well as the ambient air. This caused an exothermic reaction that caused an uncomfortable warming sensation, so I immediately rinsed it off my face. The use of glycerin in an aftershave that has water added would not have this same sensation.

Glycerine is a natural byproduct of the saponification of animal and vegetable fats. Thus, soaps always contain some glycerin. Some soaps have additional glycerin added.

Doesn't also cause stickiness if you use a lot?

My interpretation was that using a lot of an aftershave with glycerine leaves one's skin feeling sticky.

My experience is that using an aftershave with any amount of glycerine in it makes my face feel sticky.

That was the last aircraft I was the Crew Chief on before I left the Air Force in '81.
