OK, now I have officially been left behind by the relentless march forward of ridiculousness.

Perfect description. Is it athletic? Sure. Is it a sport? Nope.

I haven't watched the Olympics since it was opened to professionals.

Nah.
I do not approve of events that require judges to score them - figure skating, gymnastics, diving, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, synchronized swimming, etc. Those are just performance arts and battles of opinion. Much like WWE wrestling.
They should be spun off into separate competitions. Which, I guess, most of them are, with "world cup" meets.

The motto "Faster, Higher, Stronger" should be a good criteria. Plus games of accuracy, like golf, curling, archery, biathlon.
Oh, and who doesn't like watching a rousing game of 43-Man Squamish?

Absolutely ridiculous. Well it was a dying "art" so they had to do something to keep it alive. Can Olympic ballroom dancing be far behind?

Gents, the world has gone absolutely insane.
