I am convinced that the raised edge was intended to hold a little puddle of hot water to bloom it, especially when used in a vintage scuttle.
Otherwise, it would just drain out the holes. 
I've discovered this "crater" shape is quite effective for Williams Mug and Godrej pucks in a vintage scuttle.

Believe it or knot, I don't! The closest I got to something like that was choosing "pharmguy" as an email name, then later finding out that various suppliers referred to themselves as as "pharmers"! and now, in Maine, MaryJane is legal (sort of) and there are dispensaries all around that have "pharm" in their name (Green Pharms, etc). So I studk with this as a photo for a while (for emails, not on the wall!!)
